I enjoyed reading this. It drew me in slowly but did draw me in. Handling of Mother was great. Only thing I would do is expand the burning of the painting a bit more. I don't think it will affect the ending as it does come quickly as a surprise. But it is a very good story and done very well. Keep writing. May your days be filled with Joy.

Wow! You are the road warrior I wanted to be. Alas I got married so my final jobs were with Delta Technologies and IT for City of North Lauderdale. I love how you took an incident and turned it into a learning experience. And a valuable one at that. And your recommendations are great. I wish when I was on the road I had some way of knowing where to get good grub.
Poetry is a way of healing. This particular one reminds me so much of me and my first wife. We were both to young. And the ending was just as you described. Time brings enjoyment and time also heals. Excellent free verse. Really enjoyed it.
Good free verse, loved how it flowed with
the questions. We were locked in during covid
so the verse readily shows how the unknown can
cause us to see things a bit different sometimes.
