Normally, when a child regresses, it's something to take notice of. A child wetting their undies because they moved houses, or isn't getting enough attention because of a baby sibling, or a pet's death. It's something to comfort, and talk through, and maybe, if necessary, help them re-train.
There is one exception to this: Getting sick.
In most cases, sickness can ruin potty training, but it only lasts as long as the sickness itself. A stomach bug or cold or flu can mean a trip back to diapers, but it's usually temporary, and they'll be back in Pull-Ups or undies in no time.
