Checkmate

My entry for the 55 words or less contest.

“Aha! Checkmate!”

“What? Where?”

“There.”

“No, friend, I may move my rook.”

“Yes, but my knight can attack from the other side.”

“This is not checkmate, sir!”

“It is indeed!”

“Liar!!”

“Fool!!”

The board was flipped and the pieces scattered in the anger of defeat.

Silence….

“Same time tomorrow then?”

“Of course.”

“Right then. Goodnight.”
