My Granddad passed away 10/2002 and this was written then as a my tribute to him. |
Granddad's Bible I received my Granddad's Bible, A Bible from a Holy Man. A Bible carried throughout many sermons. My Granddad was a Reverend, In the Methodist Church. And a great one at that. He was respected, Kind, and generous to many. He was considered a man of his word. Granddad sermons were quite unusual, He never hung on to a pulpit, For dear life, In nervousness or for escapement. He wanted to preach to the congregant, Not the wooded pulpit and the back of the church. He made sure he made eye contact, With one and all in the pews and choir. He held his Bible in one hand, And maybe a note card in the other. He left the words in his sermons up to the Lord. He needed no canned speech. He wanted to be human not a robot, In front of his congregants. He was an unusual Pastor, That hung onto the Bible for guidance, Not security. The pulpit was not for him, But just as a decoration. I love you Granddad, Rev. Thomas H Taylor !!! I will try my very best to uphold your holiness, In my daily life. I will preach the word, As well as I can. Maybe someday I will get back to theology school, To become the Minister you always wished I would become. I believe in the words and teachings, Of the United Methodist Church, That you never wavered from, In all the days of your adult life. In special tribute to my Granddad with Love !!! |
