Saturday

“Andy!” yelled Jeff, “Wake up!”

“Don’t yell!”

“I didn’t yell… the first three times… Did you lose your hearing completely!”

“Sorry, I was looking at something strange.”

“And that made you deaf?

“Did you see that cloud?”

“Yes? No? What cloud, the sky is full of them…” Jeff said, smirking.

“See that garage over there?”

“Mr. Howard’s house?”

“Yes…”

“I didn’t see anything weird…”

“…There was a shadow near the garage. I thought it was of a tree or one of Mr. Howard’s bushes. But then I saw that the real shadows weren’t moving, and this one was. And then it started getting lighter. Then got really light as I was watching, then it kind of looked like a person just before it disappeared. I think I saw a ghost!”

“Very funny. You should write a book!” he laughed.

“I’m not kidding Jeff! It was really weird!”

“Ok, but now it’s gone? I’m afraid I didn’t see it, but we need to get to the park before the game starts!"

“Oh yeah!” Off they ran.

At dinner that night at Andy’s house, Andy’s Mom and Dad started talking, as usual. Andy just ate; it was usually chit chat about the day between them. On weekends they had often been together most of the day, so Andy already knew how most of it had gone.

“How did your game go today?” Dad asked, “I was sorry I couldn’t come. We had to pick up a body on Central Street.” Dad worked at a mortuary.

“I was on Central Street today! I walked to the game with Jeff.”

“Funny we didn’t see each other, it was Mr. Howard, I wondered if you knew him, he was a teacher.”

“Yes, I did, and I think I saw him today…” said Andy, very quietly.
