When unease sits heavy, listen to it.

I took off my earrings. Holding them in my hand, I let the heat of my palm warm the wee metallic dragon bodies. I had gifted myself these when I had visited an old Mystic Shoppe. The intricate design had drawn my eye and as soon as I had picked them up I felt the spark of energy surge through me. I had to have them.

I felt uneasy as I had removed them. Squeezing them within my fist, I felt that familiar zig. It was a comfort as I slid my fist under my pillow. Uneasiness lingered. I kept them in my grasp as I lay my head down and tried to get comfortable.

I glanced at the drink Egan had placed on the nightstand when he had shown me to my room.

"It's only water," he'd said. I'd nodded my thanks.

But as I looked at it now I could swear I could see a swirling of dense material moving like a fog through the liquid. There was no way I was drinking that.

For the briefest of moments I moved my hand away from my earring and watched the liquid revert to simple clear water. My brow furrowed as I touched the earrings again and watched the liquid resume its swirling fog.

Unsettled, I sat up and put my earrings back on. I watched the liquid take on a darker hue.

I jerked back, kicking out my leg in my hurry to retreat. My foot hit the edge of the nightstand and sent the glass toppling. I watched in horror as the liquid burned through the surface. and sent a vapor rising into the room.

Grabbing my clothes I ran for the window and made my escape.
