Sept means seven, which is clear to anyone who knows a little bit of the French language. But where its origin lies is unfortunately unknown to me.

Ah well…I’ll explain:
The Sept has seven lines. It can be about any subject you like. There are no requirements for rhyme in this form. The Sept is built up as follows:

Line 1: 1 syllable
Line 2: 2 syllables
Line 3: 3 syllables
Line 4: 4 syllables
Line 5: 3 syllables
Line 6: 2 syllables
Line 7: 1 syllable.
