"Rebel Poetry Contest" Prompt: These inner demons I have are friends as well as foes. Perhaps I should have listened to their whispers earlier, who knows. ~ Kate Masters All is calm within these walls, a facade erected to fend off foes. The empty smile frozen in place, the happiest of expressions, on my face. Rainbows of glitter float through the air, yet no one will tell you that life isn't fair. Shrunk and shriveled on the inside, things faced daily, yet learned to hide. Inner demons, play hide and seek, making me feel like some kind of freak. Where are my friends? Where have you been?! My heart, my soul, bleeds from within. I raise a glass to my friends and foes, let this be a lesson in what the demon knows. Closing my eyes, resting my weary soul, the demons cheer, they accomplished their goal. All is calm within these walls, a facade erected to fend off foes. WC:131 LC: 36 |
