I often wondered
Why we eat Turkey on Thanksgiving Day
I mean, of all the things we could eat
As a festive thing
Turkey is not high on my list
Truth be told
No one likes turkey
That much
So why Turkeys?

It was because
Turkeys were so numerous
And so stupid.

Anyone could kill a turkey
Even by grabbing it
With your bare hands.

So it became a traditional thing
Kill a stupid turkey
for Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

The wild turkeys
Were almost extinct
Now they are a nuisance
But scientists are warning
Turkeys are dying off
In the wild.

They think it is because
Of widespread hunting
For food as more people
In rural areas
Are living in poverty.
