The Way Station

Jason woke up in a cavern, surrounded by flames. “Wha … what’s going on?”

A devil looking creature came over. “Ahhh, you’re deiced.”

“Am I dead?”

“Duh!”

“What happened?”

“Cryogenics. You had yourself frozen. It doesn’t work, you know.”

“Am I in hell?”

The creature looked at Jason’s tag. “Don’t panic. It’s only temporary. Some stay, others we pass on. We subcontract to thaw folks like you.”

Jason looked at all the bodies stacked around him. “Wow. I guess cryogenics has become popular.”

“Not really. Half of the folks here were just married to people who wouldn’t share the covers.”
