| Write a poem about someone else. They can be someone you know or a fictional character. It's time to step away from yourself and what you feel and experience, and put yourself in another person's shoes. Restrictions: Must not be in common measure (abab or abcb rhyming); be creative. Your poem can be in any other form of your choice. Minimum word count of 12 lines. No One She looks out her apartment window while children are playing in the street. No one looks up. She goes to the neighborhood grocery store. The elderly bagboy fills her sack while the cashier swipes her card. She parks her aging car in her parking space. Her mailbox is packed as always, and bills and flyers clutter it. She puts her few groceries away. The TV flashes while the newscaster speaks, and the phone doesn’t ring. She crawls into her single bed. Prayers slip past her silent lips, and then the light goes out. She rolls over. Tears wet her pillow, and another day ends. January 13, 2016 |
