Time for Goodbyes

its never easy to say goodbye

mine for awhile.

tiny little smiles,
wiggled through his body,
with utter delight.

loyalty that stretched a mile,
as he lay by my sick bed,
licking my cheek all the while.

unconditional love,
as he struggled to live one more day,
suffering an invisible pain.

it was time my little friend,
to say our goodbyes,
to let you run among your friends,
in the blue, sunny, doggy sky.
