Looking for the next path on life's journey

            SEARCHING

I search for peace.
Tranquility has seeped like the dawn’s sunlight,
slowly drifting from my vision,
yet I know it is there – somehow.

I search for understanding.
Like a fire scorching the depths of a forest,
the crevices of my soul,
yet I know there is purpose – somehow.

I search for my-self.
Warmth fills me, yet alludes me.
I cannot attach and I cannot surrender,
yet I know that I matter – somehow.

My spirit is weak – deflated.
My mind wanders – depleated.
My breath is shallow – restricted.
My soul hurts– defeated.

And life circles about me - time beats a constant drum.
The sun rises and sets.
The tides ebb and flow.
The universe continues to revolve.

The balance of life seems in order,
all appears as it should be,
and yet… I am a pebble hidden upon the ocean floor,
searching… Just searching.
