| Don't feel bad if you've never heard of Chautauqua County Most people haven't. It is the western most county in New York State. Notorious for its bitterly cold winters and epic snowstorms. It has also given the world the Robert Jackson, chief prosecutor at the nazi Nuremburg trials, and the legendary Lucille Ball (I hope I will so edgy join that list!) It is a place where the land sleeps in deep slumber. Under feet of snow. And the people know that they are in a for months of snow ice, cold, wind and weeks on end of not seeing the sun. For months it seems like everything is dead. But in late March, flowers begin to grow. Buds peak from trees. People peak out from under their hats at the bright sun. In the cemetery, robins flit from grave to grave The sun makes it seem almost ethereal Flowers grow on long forgotten tombs And you can almost see the spirits of those within Come out and celebrate the new spring. |
