This is a poem praising legendary footballer Pele. It has 10 syllables in each line. |
It was almost seven decades ago The greatest tragedy to strike the place People had not received a bigger blow They vowed to avenge this greatest disgrace. They had waited for eight grueling years. What a wait ‘twas! A prophet had risen Among their ranks, to wipe away their tears And guide them towards a new horizon. Nascimento Pele was his great name. Just a small kid of seventeen, was he When he struck two, to bring eternal fame And help his country lift its first trophy. From then on ‘twas twelve years of dominance. Three times did they lift the coveted cup. Under his great wisdom and sheer brilliance They always went further and higher up. They were feared in all corners of the globe Just because of this one boy named Pele. They always donned the Canarinho robe Which kept them above the constant melee. Today, Pele no more graces the game But his legacy lives and will live till The apocalypse puts out his bright flame Which avenged that disgrace, that haunts them still. |
