Stalinas quest for energy leads to her banishment. For the 30 Day Image Prompt. 802 words. |
Soul Energy. “Let’s go Stalina, we have enough now. Borman is waiting.” Goruk motioned to the girl and she turned slowly, her eyes burning with the energy she had consumed. Her aura was so heightened now; he had to use all his strength to step through the vibrations. “I want the child.” She insisted. “It’s just one more.” “No.” Goruk tried to keep his voice calm, but she was pushing boundaries, trying to ignore rules. He knew it was risky to bring her. “Why? Its energy is powerful. I need it. Borman doesn’t have to know.” They were standing on a street, deserted because the humans had either fled, terror driving them away, or they had been extracted - their soul energy harvested. All except a small child, who was hiding amongst the bed linen of a closet in number fifty two. Goruk was older. He had taken part in four eclipse harvests. This was Stalinas first time and he was trying to be patient. “You know the rule, Stalina. Taking a child will destroy you, and therefore it will destroy us. You are to come with me now. We must go.” His voice was monotone, robotic, and emotionless. This is as it was supposed to be. “Why do you have a liking for the child. You need stop this insolent behaviour. You will not advance. They will leave you behind in the end.” Goruk had tried to warn her of this before their departure to earth, when she had chosen to present in a child’s form – it showed disrespect for the one rule. He tried to appeal to her better judgement, and then to logic. Their planetary system was collapsing. The planet Zoric was their home and there was little time remaining. With the great earthquake, Earth had shifted from its axis, causing the planetary shift. The only hope for Zoric and its people was to propel into the new vortex, and onto the next parallel system. This would ensure their survival . The harvested energies would help them to do this. “I don’t understand Goruk. The child’s energy is so pure and potent. I do not believe that this type of energy will prevent us from moving forward. Why can’t the elders understand? This energy will burn for years. The vibrations will move us much faster.” She had argued this point for so long that Goruk was tired of it. All he wanted now was to return to the ship. He walked away from Stalina, expecting that she would follow. She didn’t. Defiantly Stalina walked towards the house. He called after her but had no other recourse to stop her. Because she had consumed so much, her vibrations were too strong, there was no way for him to touch her. All he could do was wait, voice his discontent, and insist through both words and their telepathic channels that she was making a mistake. He hoped she would take one more look at the child and leave it alone. He would have no way of knowing until they returned to Zoric. Stalina didn’t speak to him on their journey back. Her eyes continued to blaze far more than any others. Some of the crew commented on the intensity that Stalina was able to hold onto - It takes a strong person to consume so much. Other’s tried not to watch her, her intensity far too strong for them. They arrived at Planet Zoric the next day. Recovery ships were waiting for them at the outer planetary dock. Goruk and Stalina were the last to dismount the vessel. When guards moved towards them, Goruk knew what Stalina had done. He couldn’t look at her. It wasn’t safe for him. Her fear might cause transference of the child’s energy and then he would be banned too. The guards grabbed her without effort, their energy protectors allowed easy access. They motioned for Goruk to keep moving, and he did. “Wait. No, you can’t stop me from going. Wait. Please. What are you doing! No!” Stalina yelled. The intensity of her energy made this so much more difficult for Goruk to hear. Soon, her screams echoed distantly, as she moved away from them. Goruk knew they wouldn’t allow her to return home. Not with the child’s soul energy. The rules were clear. Her defiance would be her downfall. As the recovery ship moved slowly off the dock, and began its descent towards Zorik, he glanced out of the port window. She had already been banished. Her soul light was the brightest he had ever seen, and he had seen other banishing’s. Hers would shine for many years of her drifting, until her energy dispersed. He felt a pang of sadness. He tried to send her one last telepathic message: “Rules are rules. Shine bright my friend.” 802 words. for the 30 Day Image Prompt Contest. |
