A poem about giving people weapons to deal with life through my words.

-Warning-

This is a warning,
A way of telling,
Confirming.
Wisdom asserted,
Ignorance obliterated.
What I’ve been doing,
You should know—
You have that right.
You are my audience,
This is the performance
Of my pathetic life.
When the curtain falls,
When the lights go out,
You will remain,
Dare I say, changed
In minuscule ways.
At first, you will not know,
At first, you’ll have no idea.
But be assured,
The receptive nature of our species
Cannot be ignored.
One day, one place,
One event you’ll
Do anything to escape,
Some of my words—
The ones thought lost,
The ones seemingly pointless,
Contrived anecdotes written
To appease myself and you—
Will find you.
When they do,
You will think back,
Long before that place,
Back to another
Where I,
The man with much to say,
Filled a blank page
And sent it out
Into the space
Between you and me.
You will find peace
Through finally understanding
All that I have said.
This is a warning—
Heed it if you must.
Take it deep inside,
Ingest my words,
Devour my soul.
It is yours to consume,
Just as it is mine
To write out,
Line by line…
