A Year Without Spring


In the year without a spring
The songbirds stay away
They fly south for the winter
It’s in the south they’ll stay

In the year without a spring
The animals don’t mate
Birds lay eggs that cannot hatch
The chicks will have to wait.

In the year without a spring
Spring’s great sport’s been taken
No homeruns and no strikeouts
Baseball is forsaken

In the year without a spring
The leaves do not regrow
The trees are bare and empty
The wind has naught to blow

In the year without a spring
Bears just keep on sleeping
Butterflies stay in cocoons
Mother Nature’s weeping

In the year without a spring
There are no April showers
Without which will never bloom
The beautiful May flowers

So let us pray for spring this year
To grace us with creation
Because without spring, let’s face it
Life is on vacation.
