Just five more minutes... Dedicated to all my WDC addicted friends.

I was so tired, and I was starting to get a migraine. If I didn’t get any sleep soon, the headache would grow until it would feel like someone was ramming a stake through my skull.

I glanced at the microwave clock to read 11:42 PM.

Where in God’s name was Gene? I thought. What terrible tragedy would keep him from calling the love of his life?

You have to stop doing this, Megan, I lectured myself. This is the fifth night in a row you’ve gone though this.

But my ruminating continued on. Why couldn’t Gene come home?

Think, Megan, think.

Maybe he was in a car accident.

No…

Maybe he’s being held hostage.

Hum…

Wait, what if he’s a werewolf? There is a full moon tonight.

Startled, my heart skipped a beat as I heard a shuffling noise behind me, and then took off in a galloping beat when I saw it was my husband, Michael.

He stood there with sleep tossed hair and eyes barely open.

“What are you doing?” he growled.

Dang! Busted!

I didn’t answer fast enough so he strode over to my laptop, glared at the screen, and dryly read the last paragraph of my Word Document.

“Sophie paced by the phone willing it to ring. What could be keeping him?” Michael grunted and kept reading, “Dear God, please let Gene be all right.”

He then turned his attention back to me. "It's almost midnight, Megan, and you're writing a story?"

I hung my head sheepishly and tried to explain, “I know it’s late, but I'll only be about five more minutes. This story is for a contest on “Writing .com.” I just have to finish one more paragraph, so I can get it in by midnight. Then I’ll be…”

“You need help,” Michael interrupted me.

With a final sigh, and a shake of his head, he went back to bed.
