The Actor

I’m Unseen
I’m Unloved
I’m Unwanted

So a life devoted to the stage
Living the life of my character

Learning her lines
Learning her ways
Learning her style

She’s warm in the spotlight
She’s masked in costume
And the audience enraptured
Living vicariously though her.

She’s seen
She’s loved
She’s wanted

The lights go down
I stand here alone without her
The customs are hung
My face stripped clean

No audience to see me
No spotlight to warm me
No cast to encourage me

I stand here alone
My character put to rest

Unwanted
Unloved
Unseen
