Strike Out!

         Tanya glanced up at the clock for the fifth time wondering if it had bothered to move. The sharp crack of a bowling ball hitting pins caused her to noticeably jump. She had to calm down! Tonight would end in disaster if she threw up all over Ryan at the crowning moment.

         "You're up, Tanya!" Sophie snapped.

         Tanya sighed. She shouldn't have told her best friend her plans for the night. For some reason, Sophie had become enraged when Tanya said she planned on "doing it" with Ryan. She's just jealous, Tanya thought. Ryan was hot, celebrity hot, and he liked her. Besides, Sophie wasn't even close to losing her V-card!

         Tanya brushed her mousy brown hair away from her face and grabbed her ball. Then, barely glancing at the pins, she threw.

         Gutter ball!

         "Dang, Tanya," Ryan drawled, "hope you're better at other things!" His minions snorted in approval, as Ryan leered and winked at her.

         Before she could utter a reply, Sophie grabbed her arm and jerked her towards the bathroom.

         Tanya started in as soon as the door closed. "Look, he's not the jerk you think he...

         "Stop it!" Sophie cut her off. "Just stop!"

         "Do you know what 'hoggin' is, Tanya?" Sophie went on.

         Tanya remained silent. Her face starting to burn.

         "Yeah," Sophie went on as tears started welling in both their eyes, "you're the fat chick he's gonna bag, and you've given' him the green flag to do it!"

         Tanya's mortification changed into rage as she slammed out of the bathroom and back to their lane.

         "Hoggin'?" Tanya screamed in Ryan's face.

         Then with a force that would have hurled a bowling ball into the next town, she smacked him across the face and ran out the door.
