Free verse, about my wife. |
| The sun sets and I watch its reflection in the river erase. I can smell wood burning as I listen to the campfire crackle behind me. And so I sit down. I stare at you from across the fire as tiny shadows dance upon your face. Then gently a breeze begins to blow. The nightly temperature drop has begun as I watch you shiver. So I say “Come sit beside me”. I then put my arm around you as the fire does not seem to be quite warm enough. And then I sit back. I can see the stars through the tree-line above and a full moon casts it beams down. I notice that you have drifted asleep as your arm falls toward the ground. And then I close my eyes. I breathe in, immersed in the nature that surrounds me- The river, the trees, and the stars. The fire with its smell, and smoke hanging in the air; the breeze still blowing. And You, slumbering while against my shoulder, your arm dangling still. Immersed in this all, I know that I do not want to leave in the morning. And still the morning comes. |
