Though it scares me to think you may be watching at me
I can't resist taking a quick glance across to you
And there again your eyes meet mine momentarily.
This time you are the one to drop your gaze first
And I am left to interpret the deceptive smile I see.
This time when I look your way I am more careful
And I try to look unaffected under your quiet scrutiny.
Then as quickly as the connection formed it came to an end
When amidst our unspoken conversation there came to be
Another figure in the form of a friend, a prelude to your exit
But though you must leave I'll remember the feeling in me
When at the moment of departure you let your eyes linger...
And in your eyes I saw the words you wished to speak so clearly.
From now on I'll always wonder if, and when I'll ever see you again.
