Broken

Broken in heart she cuts her flesh in remorse.

Ruby-colored liquid
Stains her hands.
Red droplets
Trickle down her arms.
Rain leaks from
Her stormy eyes.
Her voice escapes
From dead lips.

She gazes at
The setting sun
But that departing radiance
Does not look back.
She sings out
To the stars
But those distant beauties
Do not listen.
She reaches out to Heaven
And is overwhelmed
By darkness.

Her hair
Remains unstroked.
Her hand
Remains unheld.
Her lips
Remain unkissed.

Her heart beats
But her soul bleeds.
