A song about abuse my sister went through.

Black eyes, they always sting,
bruises eventually fade away,
bones always heal stronger than before,
but broken hearts, broken forever.

Provoking makes him angry,
mad enough to take a swing,
something always sets him off,
and you're always the one to blame.

Another man passes by,
you think he sparks an interest,
wondering in the back of your mind,
will he be replacing you tomorrow?

Door knobs, stairs, cars, childrens' toys,
all are excuses waiting to be told.
How many times can you tell the doctor
each one of these before someone catches on?

Pictures that can turn your stomach,
looks from friends that make you sick.
How much of this can you live with,
until you feel you can't live much longer?

Black eyes, they always sting,
bruises eventually fade away,
bones always heal stronger than before,
but broken hearts, broken forever.

Advise seems to be not what you want to hear,
words of love and comfort only work for so long,
apology after apology, promise after promise,
each and every one, day after day,
hoping you'll hear and then you'll believe.

Swollen lips and puffy cheeks,
signs of another rough night,
blood stained shirts and tear stained pillows,
evidence of a love gone wrong.

Black eyes, they always sting,
bruises eventually fade away,
bones always heal stronger than before,
but broken hearts, broken forever.

Your heart's too loving, too trusting,
to know it'll happen again,
you believe in him so much, you begin to believe he's sorry,
you believe you deserve what comes to you.

Asked why you don't leave,
you say,
"I can't, I love him
and he says he'll never do it again"

Black eyes, they always sting,
bruises eventually fade away,
bones always heal stronger than before,
but broken hearts, broken forever.

Door knobs, stairs, cars, childrens' toys,
all are excuses waiting to be told.
How many times can you tell the doctor
each one of these before someone catches on?
