in younger days
I had friends to chat
through the night
side with me in a fight
say my boyfriend was just right

most friends retain
these same properties
but your friendship is more

you’re a yes man
only when it’s right
not afraid to tell me no
mature friendship I’d never know
encouragement sending me places I dared not go

an appreciation for finer things
artistically minded like myself
you support my creativity
challenge the thoughts that are not me
make me see honest reality

I thank you for that honesty
for showing me who I can be
setting me free to be the authentic me
helping me appreciate my insanity
