Very nice writing. I am not an expert, but I noticed that you were writing in the 1st AND 3rd persons. Might I suggest taking the parts that are in the 1st person and either making them italic or insetting the paragraph from the rest. (larger margins) It might offset or make the 1st person paragraphs stand out more and won't confuse the reader? Otherwise quite impressive.
