For me, a story should be written so it could be read around a campfire. Chapter 1 of Shadow Watcher has that kind of flow. Not an over amount of explanation or description. Shadow Watcher lets the reader envision the setting themself without painting it for them.
It draws me into Sam's world because I can understand what she's feeling. I'm familiar with Novica in the sense that it could be anywhere I've lived.
The only minor suggestion I could make is that I would like to see a few more contractions used when possible. For me, they just help keep the flow moving as nicely as it does.
Shadow Watch keeps me interested and wanting to read more.
