I like this little piece, it is written a bit unconventionally, but I think the theme never meant to be conventional. It does leave the reader wanting to know the relative attractiveness of each character...are they a good match physically, just neither has the courage? Or is this a one-sided love affair from across the counter. I like the imagery though, I found myself wanting him to stay for the narrator.
