I read this and I liked this mostly because of Gormenghast(mainly because of the name Titus), which was a wonderful book series, and has similarities between this piece, and it's depressing characters. This isn't too bad, the imagery is soothing, interesting, really liked the comparisons, although I felt like some were lacking originality, although maybe they were like old adages back into Romanticism.
