Hi, I really like the story, especially the concept. It is surprising that a spirit would want treasure..but then so do dragons :) . I really expected the spirit to trick them again, extort more out of them and leave them even more desperate, so I think your ending quite merciful. It reads very well for a short story and could even be expanded on. I only noticed one typo: "How nae they had been, so foolish and self-absorbed", the word naive. Look forward to reading some more of your work.
