What a sweet story! You desribe your daughter's reaction to seeing you very well...we are lucky indeed when we can do something to elicit that kind of reaction from a child!

A quick note: You shift tenses within "At this point in my life, I opted to..." Consider: "At this point in my life, I was opting to". You might find that it flows better.
