The poem had its merits, but I enjoyed the explanation thoroughly. You definitely had more of a story to tell that the poetic form allowed. Perhaps you might want to work up a more developed prose piece based on the charming stories underlying the poem. You have a nice style of expression, I want to read more about the people in your life, past and present.
