My first review. Forgive me if for any newcomer mistakes I might make.
I liked this poem a lot and I am a harsh critic of the written word, particularly poetry, which I think is too often taken lightly and thus often left relatively untended.
I've given this a 4.5 because I think, to make it perfect, it needs to answer who "us" is within the poem. I would not have known this had you not indicated that it was, in fact, a poem about middle-age.
I love this line:
"We have not noticed
the waning sun,
ignored the first turning
leaves and cooling
breath upon the air."
We don't, do we? Notice the beginning, that is? We like to believe we are immortal, forever young. Sigh.
