While I see that there is pain and loss in this piece. It is trite. Cliche imagery such as "the earth stood still" actually takes away from your message. Common phrases take away the urgency, the love, the lust of such situations in writing. Creating a completely new world excites the reader, it allows them to connect with the writing on a much deeper level.
