I crawl out of the cave where WYRM members are continuously working to find that it is Writing.com's anniversary. The whole site is busy! WYRMs are, too: they've freshened up the main group page, "WYRM" , and added a bit of Q & A to the "Talk to the WYRMs" forum. Soon, there will also be short bios for each of our current members in that forum. We're also out and about this week, rewarding in-depth reviews on the Public Review Page. We hope to see you out there. |
It's spring break time in WYRM, and these reviews keep getting stuffed between my scales anyway. It's a break, my squishy WYRMs. A break! But who am I kidding? I do love that there is always someone here with me on my jeweled mountain, and I'm glad my WYRMs are staying indoors to keep themselves and others safe. The WYRMs and I wish all of you out there safety and health and peace of mind. |
This badge came about when pastWYRM Jay's debut novel is out now! The realization came, very quickly, that the exclamation point had to be part of it, and it was the first Merit Badge on the site with an exclamation point. ! Arwee is also the artist behind the original design—our main group page banner, seen here: "WYRM" We give the Merit Badge out to newly minted Full Member WYRMs, as well as for activities and other special gratitudes. We hope to have many opportunities to give it out in the future. |
A hearty thank-you to all who have followed along on this We were delighted to be able to give out five "You've Got WYRMs!" Merit Badges, and even more delighted to gain a WYRM after J.B. earned that badge. Schnujo's having school probs J.B. Ezar eyestar~* Angelica Weatherby- Snowangel northernwrites And more thanks to those who took the time to send in a review or two, even if they didn't have time to do the three that would warrant a Merit Badge. We are so appreciative of each review! Shaye Nixie 💃 Thank you, WYRMfriends, thank you. |
We just added a new member, WYRMfriends. J.B. Ezar I have listed the members with extra reviews in this notebook, but I have failed to give you a comprehensive list. Let me amend that now. In their current order on our group page, they are: Stargopher iguanamountain Amalthea Tobber Schezar Dark Lady Jovana Una Ciudad de la Inglaterra concrete_angel Mikibits J.B. Ezar They are, to a member, committed to the writing of speculative fiction, and to in-depth reviewing. All of them have other areas of expertise, but these are the commitments that bind them to me, and glad I am to shelter them within my leathery wings. They are varied in their talents and personalities, and I love them all. If you wish to join their ranks, please visit "WYRM" . If not, I love to have you here, and we all hope you become a regular visitor. Besides the activity that ends tomorrow at noon, "Note: *Dragon* A WYRMly Reviewing Activity ...", we do intend to have other opportunities for you to earn Gift Points and our Merit Badge in the future. We thrive here on Writing.com, and we'd like to help you thrive here as well. Thank you for coming to my WYRMtalk. |
| I browsed some of your reviews. The one for concrete_angel was especially, uh, interesting. If I recall you started out with "I hated it." |
I am not a common dragon, my WYRMfriends, and it is not only because I sit upon Gift Points rather than gold. Unlike wyrms, a WYRM wishes to share its hoard, to give it away into worthy hands. Since Friday, my WYRMs have helped me distribute my hoard to four worthy reviewers. Additionally, they have had the honor of giving out our exclusive Merit Badge to two excellent reviewers. The WYRMs being honored in this activity thank you for the excellent work from all four of you, as well as the sacrifice of your time. The activity runs through this Friday, up until the noon hour of your Eastern Standard Time. We would love to give out more Gift Points and Merit Badges. I implore you to continue helping us honor those WYRMs who have gone above and beyond. |
Look at that spectacular silhouette of one of my many heads. Arwee has done such great work to give me form and beautify our pages. I apologize for the delay in my getting to the point, but just look how fetching I am. Can you blame me? I've dropped in to ensure that you all know of your ability to save Newsfeed notes. There is a small downward-pointing symbol in the upper right-hand corner of Newsfeed notes. Clicking on that gives you the ID number of the note plus a few other options. One of those options is to "Save this note." At the top of your Newsfeed page, there is a link for |
It is the hope of myself and my fellow WYRMs that you might have an interest in earning the exclusive Merit Badge (pictured above) I've been promising all week, in addition to Gift Points through the Public Review Page. Yes, my lustrous Notebook readers, this is a reviewing activity. I am far too fond of stretching my wings to bind this activity to the character limit restrictions on a Notebook entry. (Though, we do allow that having such restrictions is of the utmost necessity, given the nature of the Newsfeed.) In deference to this, I have created an item where we might lay out the details of how you may earn the Merit Badge as well as Public Review Rewards. Come see, come see: ٠ Write helpful, non-fluff reviews. If it is examples you desire, please visit the "Reviews" portfolio tab belonging to any of our three honored WYRMs. ٠ Make your review(s) public. ٠ Post a comment on this Notebook entry with a link to your review(s) using WritingML. As an example, {review:4516705} renders: Invalid Review ٠ Turn in your reviews by the deadline, one week from the posting of this note. ٠ If you mean to earn the Merit Badge, either post links to all three of your reviews in one comment or else please number each review so that we know when you have completed your set of three. Thank you for your help! If you have any questions, you will garner the swiftest response if you ask them in a comment below. The deadline for this activity is Noon WdC time (EST) on Friday, January 24. |
| Not "instead," Angelica Weatherby- Snowangel, but "in addition to"! I'm glad to see you caught yourself, that the MB requirement is to review each of our three honored WYRMs, but you get PRP review reward GPs for every review you do of the items on our list. I'm about to read over reviews and send out MBs, and then MBs will be caught up for now, until more reviews come in. And noting for myself that Shaye and Nixie 💃 have each done one review (and both reviewed concrete_angel), in case they get in more before the deadline at noon tomorrow. No matter what, though, the WYRMs so appreciate all the work you reviewers have done! (And if I've missed anything, please feel free to correct me.) |
| Now, see, looks like I missed one. Nixie 💃 reviewed another of concrete_angel's items. It's not posted here, but we WYRMs find these things out sometimes. |
Our requirement to complete one quality in-depth review per week has exhausted many, but some laugh in the face of it. Once a new WYRM rises from Application Period Member status to Probationary Member, that WYRM can start building up “Extra Reviews.” (For more about member levels, do please visit the mountain gate: "WYRM" ) When Probationary and Full Members do more than one quality in-depth WYRMitem review in a week, the Extras go into a bank. Those members may then choose to cash in their Extra Reviews and bask in the sun with me while one of their Extras count as their weekly review requirement. Here are all our members who have gone beyond the one-review-a-week requirement and thereby have banked Extras. We have some members with truly outrageous banks. Five (5) for Jovana Six (6) for iguanamountain Twelve (12) for Amalthea Thirty-Three (33) for Una Ciudad de la Inglaterra Fifty-two (52) for concrete_angel Seventy (70) for Tobber You read that right, WYRMfriends! Tobber could come sit on my mountain with me for well over a year, and have his items WYRM-reviewed the whole time. concrete_angel could join us, perhaps contemplate the shine of my scales, for one whole year. And Una Ciudad de la Inglaterra has the numbers to allow him to contemplate with us for more than half a year. Ah, but I don't mean to presume what they would do with such leisure time, and they do not appear inclined to seek out leisure time in the foreseeable future anyway. For the sake of those three members with the most Extra Reviews, we meet back here tomorrow morning, when you can help me thank them with more than fire-ridden words. We have rewards for you in return for your assistance. |
And several have been nominated for a Quill Award for their reviewing skills. That's pretty awesome! Feel free to nominate anyone else who hasn't been nominated, but gives great feedback and helps the author grow.
|
| We will endeavor to fulfill this mighty quest, Schnujo's having school probs concrete_angel, you make me blush...which, I must say, does put an even grander luster to my scales. |
| This Notebook-posting brings me a great amount of joy! My posts will not be so frequent after this week, but I have so much I want to share with you as we approach the activity on Friday. (I so look forward to seeing the WYRMs give Gift Points and our Merit Badge to those willing to lend us some assistance.) Let me tell you about these WYRMs, who are always working, even when they're staring off into space and idly scratching my scales. Just look at iguanamountain Una Ciudad de la Inglaterra Jovana Our newest member, Mikibits There is always something fresh to read and review, from folders full of short stories and flash fiction pieces to novels and novellas. I hold them all in my talons, using the utmost care. |
| Gracious thanks for the reminder, Schnujo's having school probs. We are also most appreciative for the categories in need, as well as the offer in that note. Many WYRM items are on restricted access, so it takes some investigation to find favorites that others might also be able to see, but we will endeavor to try. I do hope that the pointing out of categories in need does not deter anyone from nominating items in the categories that are already heavily populated. You might never know when you are nominating the winner, and it is good that popular categories have plenty of competition. That might encourage greater efforts by those who write items in the favorite categories as well as greater efforts for site members to try new things, new item types, fresh adventures. Shaye, you have stumbled upon our covert plan to lure you back as soon as possible. We hope one day is one day soon, and we wish you all the best in your adventures. |
| I've been randomly posting ads for Quills nominations all year. It's only since Januarys that I've started asking for specific categories. You know, one category has 39 entries and another has one or even none. But certainly everything you love should be nominated. Mostly, I was hoping the categories would encourage folks to specifically dig for those types of items. Purposely read a chapter instead of a short story. |
This "WYRM" egg hatched in August of 2006, though I didn't begin to welcome new members until the spring of 2007, once I'd learned to walk and flutter around a bit. I was very proud of my shiny scales! (Still am, I have to admit.) In that time, thirty-eight WYRMs have been accepted into the group. Many had to leave, but a few return to the mountain now and then. No matter the amount of time they spend here, every WYRM has been a part of making me the glorious beast I am today. You can talk to me here, and you can "Talk to the WYRMs" in the public room. WYRM stands for helpful in-depth reviews, helping one another become better writers, and the camaraderie of people with similar goals and passions. It stands for the kids dreaming up stories of fantasy lands and far-off planets, of talking animals and vampires, of swords and spaceships and portals to other sides of reality. It gives WYRMs something to exercise muses without any set decision. It could be an acronym for Where You Really Matter or Will You Review Me? Or maybe What Yearning Readers Materialize. (Extra fire points for being able to read that more than one way.) WYRM stands for us. There are plenty of Wyrms and wyrms out there. We're the only WYRM. I don't go around de-capitalizing the letters of anyone else's name. (Still looking forward to Friday, when anyone can walk away with our exclusive Merit Badge.) |
I sit on my mountain, stretching my leathery wings now and then, and contemplate the universe. Mostly that means thinking up puns, but recently I've been wanting to share some of the goings-on in the writing and reviewing group I house, "WYRM" . I'd like to give glimpses into it now and then. WYRMholes, if you would. I plan to share trivia, accomplishments, and general merriment in this notebook. Sometimes that merriment will take the form of activities that will give Writing.com members a chance to earn our exclusive Merit Badge. The first of those activities will start this Friday. Keep an eye on this notebook, and come stretch your wings with me. |
Ah, you caught me grabbing the incorrect link. These talons get in the way of navigating tabs efficiently. Here is the correct link:
Thank you for the additional information on your challenge. I did not believe it a contest in and of itself, only that a notebook activity would not fit. And, ah, a visit from my former WYRM (these letters stand for plenty, and then some) of the Asymmetrical Power. We miss you, you know. Thank you for sharing a link that slipped my mind. |
| Thanks, asymmetrical! I had "Invalid Item" saved, but not the one you listed. I've saved it now. And thanks for the info that WYRM apparently/allegedly doesn't stand for anything. WYRM, if you decide to run an actual contest from the notebook, we can still give it a go. It will be a bit harder because notebook entry links don't get as big as bitem links, so I'd have to like put arrows or something pointing at your contest link so people see it among the other links, but if you are interested in the future, let me know. But if you already get more entries than you can handle, no worries. It's all good. Thanks for discussing the possibility with me. And I apologize for all the, you know, like plain, normal speech. |
| Many thanks, Schnujo's having school probs! We will remember this information the next time we put a contest together, whether it be here or in its own item. |
