This month has been going well so far. Gotten a lot written and a lot edited. Right now I'm looking for some critiques on my query and synopsis (as seen here: "Invalid Item" ), as I'm feeling rather hateful of both. I've been staring at them too hard. I think I'm going to study now, or draw something. |
This is still Tam, by the way, and yes I still lurk around here sometimes. I'm working on making some big changes, such as gathering all my online names under the same one, so I thought I'd come and extend it to WDC as well. I will be making a writing website soon and putting all my (relevant) blog posts on there. I have yet to decide on a site to use, however. Right now I'm just waiting on some final beta replies. If they all get back to me in time, I should be looking at querying in a month or two. That's judging by the previous responses (out of three betas for each of my two books, they came back mostly positive with only mild tweaks suggested. That's two books with a positive So, how is everyone else doing with publication goals? I know I had at least one friend prepping for it this year. |
Figured I'd slip in an update, even if I don't go online very often. Currently Editing (and seeking beta-readers for): Circle of Gold Planning (final) Edits for: Descendants of Rose Currently Writing: The Red Count's Testimony All of the sudden winter has decided to be very cold. Three of my violin's pegs slipped, so I had to do major re-tuning. I also just finished beta-reading two novels, so I'm bored on the bench once more. |
Blog writing: "Invalid Entry" Still kind of busy elsewhere. Not sure if I'll ever be able to do much on here ever again, really. I'm finding my readers elsewhere, mostly, and am too busy reading their stuff in return to have time to pay attention to this site much. That said, if anyone needs me for anything, I still check my email most every day. |
It's been a while since I actually came online for more than two minutes, so I'll make an update. I've only gotten around to trying one site because I like to check them thoroughly. So far I have modest results. I have gotten more - and better - reviews, and have made some new acquaintances. The review tool is easier to use than WDC's is, too, which is nice. I haven't updated the stories/books I have posted on here. Forgive me if they're somewhat out-of-date, but it's pretty low on my to-do list right now. I also wrote up a short story (took me about an hour and a half),. If anyone is curious: "Invalid Item" . |
Seeking other writing websites for critiques today... I love this site well enough, but I've long since given up on getting novel critiques here. I only put them up for my convenience - I use two devices that do not both support the same writing software - and because I have two readers who find it easier if they are here. I have not received a full novel critique here in (two?) years aside from a beta-reading friend's. Since I'm a novelist, and currently seeking beta-swap partners, this is not very convenient. All my beta swaps have been conducted offsite through emails - with writers I did not meet here. I think what I'm trying to say is that I feel like I've outgrown the site. If anyone has any particular suggestions - or sites they advise against - I'm listening. That said, I'm not leaving this site. I'm just not going to be as active (like I'm super active ALSO, for the people I was giving reviews to. Please note the changes in my review tab. |
| @glitterpen Oh, I know about the internet publishing problem. Hence why I'm researching the security on each website before I post anything. I'm super touchy about exposing my novels/stories to the Big Wide Web. Never thought about DeviantArt before - I generally keep that to images. |
| @akaluv I'll check them out, and thanks for the advice. I like the people on here, but they are always too busy to give novel feedback. I feel as though I'm one of the very few people who is really serious about getting traditionally published. |
| Antonia Ryder Posting on the newsfeed only gets your request seen by those listed as your fans! The default setting for the feed sets it like that. I have been on almost all the other sites and you will not get more reviews, and they won't be as good as those here on WdC. and if you post anything on Fanstory.com you can kiss your "First Rights to publish status good-bye (American or otherwise) even if you delete your account later, when you try and publish your book they will assert that they own the AFRP and will demand a cut of your sales. (I know from experience.) and if you mention their name to SM, he will say bad words! It's like smacking his thumb with a hammer. With all that said, I would love to provide you feedback if you want it. Sent me the link to whatever you want read. |
Back in the fun times of seeking beta readers/swappers for "Invalid Item" . Off season, too. However, this is the second-to-last draft, so I'm looking forward to get this story back in the game. On a related subject, one of my brothers heard I was researching the Victorian era and gave me a fan to practise my flirting |
I've added a new entry to my book, "Invalid Item" : "Invalid Entry" Because I have so many other things that need doing, and this is the perfect way to procrastinate. |
After some amazing beta readers (I thank all of you very much), and some supreme effort, I finally finished a (rough-ish) 'fixed' draft for "Invalid Item" . I have some editing to do, just to make sure everything fits and none of the old stuff is still conflicting (plus some tweaks on description and such), but for the most part I feel pretty good about it. It's still going to be a huge job, but it's not looking too bad for a three-year-old novel. Plus, I can take a break before NaNo. |
Seems I'm going to be pretty busy until Sunday - especially today, because we're going to visit the brother that came back from the states yesterday. In the meantime I've been doing plenty of thinking. I want to rewrite one of my older projects for NaNo, but I can't seem to decide which one. I've narrowed it down to "Invalid Item" and "Song of Prince Louie" . The third option was too much on the fence and is not a contender anymore. So I redid both these stories' blurbs, hoping one would grab me more than the other. No such luck. I'm almost to the point of flipping a coin to decide |
I've added a new entry to my book, "Invalid Item" : "Invalid Entry" This subject never gets old, I guess, and I'll keep writing up these historical/logistics things as they come to me. Mostly in relation to misconceptions by my own readers. Going to town again today. I foresee a tiring day ahead |
I've added a new entry to my book, "Invalid Item" : "Invalid Entry" I get comments about these two points so often, I finally had enough of it and decided to write something about them. |
In case anyone is wondering what happened to me, I'm completely fine. I'm just deep in novel editing right now. Also, I haven't a clue what I'm going to write for NaNo. |
| Elycia Lee ☮ akaluv Thanks. It's something to do while I'm waiting for the beta-readers of my other novel (Circle of Gold) to get back to me. |
Last week was one of those weeks. My novel edits were the biggest upside to it, really. In the middle of last week, I broke my violin's D string (while playing, the windings gave out). On Friday I got a new one, and restrung it on Saturday. Only to break the string while putting it on... It was my last D string... Now I have to wait until we can go to town to get another one (I'll get three, I think!). I'm optimistic that this week will go better. |
| Have you tried Amazon.com? Have the string delivered to your door rather than waiting to go to town, Antonia Ryder Sorry about that, but glad you got to spend time on your editing. Maybe I'll spend November editing my book while others are NaNo-ing. |
I think part of the problem here on WDC is the fact that there is virtually zero motivation for people to review others. But that's my opinion, it's still a perfectly good site... it just depends what level you are in writing and where you're taking it. I still think email beta-swaps have done me the most good overall - so I'm also seeking those.
Sorry for getting so long-winded
