Paint the vibe for us. We’ll try to picture it.

Warm with good ventilation.
Alone, peace, offline, writing tools.
Coffee; quiet; warmth; my dog.

Hope can change a whole scene. Let’s build something bright together.

For some, hope is all they have; for those, at least they have that, and have not abandoned themselves to surrender to the darkness.
Spring is just around the corner, beginning March 20th.
The children sat and listened, deep in thought, as the elders spoke their histories.
If you had one quiet hour gifted to you right now, would you use it?

I would write if I didn't hurt so badly (and if I weren't afraid AI would publish my writing on Amazon or summat).
Early this morn, I asked the Creator to take away a friend's pain and give it to me to bear. My request seems to have been granted. I like to think it has, and that my friend feels better today. I'll probably find out later.
Reagana Author Icon - You remind me of Alison Krauss' "The Lucky One."
Not unless it wasn't Friday the thirteenth, AGAIN!

*Snow1* Frozen Food Friday!

If you could fill these freezers with any one food,
what would it be?

*Snow2*

Pepperoni pizza with less cheese and lots of tomato sauce.
I wish I could fill it with Choco Taco. They need to bring that ice cream back.
Cod Fish Fingers,
Because I love a fish finger sandwich with a Dollop of Tomato sauce.

Poetry version!
Aside from a prompt, what sparks a poem for you?
Wannabe Author Icon - yep
I love to write. It inspires me and gives me hope for a better tomorrow. My goal is to reach out and encourage people to keep on writing. Don't give up. Each of you has a story that can help other people. Get the word out there. You can do it. Believe in yourself.
Mitigation of trauma pain. And the production of small joys.
Beginnings? Middles? Endings? Let’s normalize the hard parts.

Beginnings. Not necessarily the beginnings of the actual first few chapters, that's were I have lots of ideas, but how to start off the beginning of a chapter and get it going... That I can find difficult.

Explaining what the book is about. When someone finds out that I like to write, and they ask, "What are your books about?" I never know how to respond. The new series I've been working on is especially hard. I might say, "They're about squirrels, and other creatures in the forest... they fight villains, rescue captives, and make unlikely friends." And then people look at me like I'm crazy. I think I need to figure out a better way to describe the Prone To Wander series.
The part of writing that challenges me the most is using grammar correctly and keeping people people interested and excited about my stories as I am.

Portfolio Update

Your Portfolio Tools and Highlighted Items have been given an updated look and feel on your portfolio page! The tools themselves haven't changed, but they should now be easier to spot. Just a small tweak to make navigating and organizing your work a little smoother.

Search Added to Portfolios
You can now search within your portfolio or someone else's right from the portfolio page! This IS new... enjoy!

(Click
Portfolio / Portfolio from the left navigation to see the changes.)
Wow, love the new look and the search tool!
I *Heart* this so much:

It's clean and very obvious. So, feel free to disregard my suggestion about the port organizer.
*Bigsmile*
Inspiration doesn’t always knock politely. Where did it surprise you?

My stays in the hospital. Oddly enough, it was the perfect place for me to think and organize my thoughts

Wild Wednesday

Let's get crazy...

Comment with a single sentence that's just
wild or wacky.

More Updates and Improvements to Writing.Com:

1) Book Manager Update

The book manager got a glam-over, clean-up.

There's now a more proper toolbar that allows you to turn on/off all the gizmos and doo-dads, like bulk ordering, access restrictions and more. Tags have been added as well. Clicking the tags let members manage the individual entries as well as filter the entire book's entries by tags. The bulk system has tags available, too. Check 5 entries, click the "Tag" tool from the bottom and add tags to all 5 at once.

(
Shout-outs to Brandiwyn🎶 Author Icon for the initial tag request and Amethyst Angel ♡ Author Icon for the bulk tagging request that led to this latest beautification. *Heart* )

2) Item Edit "Time" Update

Previously,
every edit to an item updated its modified time.

Now, only changes to the item's
title, brief description, or main body will automatically update the time.

You'll find a checkbox at the bottom of the item edit form for the modified time. It will be checked automatically when you change any of those three listed areas. If you didn't change any of them, you can still opt to update the time by ticking the box.

(
This has been tested, but until it's been out there for a good bit, please don't rush out and test this with some item you haven't edited in 10 years because you didn't want to lose the modified time from 2016. *Laugh* That's a terrible test case. A forum you edited last week is a much better test case. Please feel free to report any bugs in "Bug Reporting.)

3) Three New Emoticons!

It's PIE for everyone!
All kinds of PI(E)!
(and just in time for Pi Day March 14!)

*Pie* *Piechart* *Pi*

The updates to the book manager have been great! *Heart*
Awesome it's pie time.
New month, new growth. Share what’s starting to take shape.

My headteacher has been attacked and is in hospital with memory loss, but who attacked her and why? My protagonist, Shirley, under the threat of redundancy, is now working for the Acting Headteacher, who has been at the school for a long time and is well liked. The Caretaker, Gerald, is nervous. He has a big secret and he is afraid of being found out. Meanwhile there is a ghost...and if you look very carefully at the cover of my book - Chalk Dust &Broomsticks, you might be able to find it!

The plot. It's finally starting to show it's self!
I have a state math assessment coming up and a math position interview two days later.
A newletter on hero types.
Do you choose what type of hero your character is, or do they develop during the story?
S🤦‍♂️ Author Icon - Exactly so!!
A little of both. I like to plan characters as completely as possible before starting a book. Some times a character will change during the story depending on where the story leads me.
My characters tend to develop into heroes over time.
Often, the most memorable heroes in the stories we love begin as individuals who are initially considered “nobodies.” That origin is what makes them relatable.

It was reminded of something I once heard in a speech:
“Have you ever noticed that heroes and villains often share similar backstories? The difference lies in how they respond to them.
The villain says, ‘This hurt me, so I will hurt others.’
The hero says, ‘This hurt me, so I will protect others from experiencing the same pain.’”

Another week in the books...

That means it's time to post your Weekly Goals followup in "Weekly Goals

Dave Author Icon - thanks. I'll email you soon.
Scrape. Scrape. Scrape.
Scratch.
Well, that was new.
***
The tools lining the wall gleam silver. When I run my hands across them, they're freezing.
Scrape. Wooden planks line the ceiling, brown spatter dripping off of them still. And finally, the best part, a cage, silver red brown stains on the ground, soft croaks filling the room.

Scrape.
The air was damp and smelled of mold. Underfoot things that crunched impeded my progress. The light became dimmer and I finally had to stop for breath.
