Are you the type that always loses contests? That can't keep up with word counts? That feels like entering another challenge would be pointless because all the other ones amounted to nothing, no matter how cool they were?
If so, I have the place that works for you - because it works for me -

I know, the link is massive (by the way, do you know what else is massive?) and you've seen it all over the place from the fellow, well, honestly, far-too-few, current contestants, but what about a different point of view?
Finally, a contest with no judge except yourself, where you can work at your own pace, no penalty for turning in things late, and short enough that it can be done within 5 minutes if so desired. Surely you can carve out 5 minutes, even with all your other contest entries and actual life (easy to forget those exist while on here, no?) to dip your toes into the realm of poetry.
You say you're not good at poetry, haven't written it before? Well, that's me too. If I stay on task, I'll have written more poems for this contest within two weeks than I'd written before in my entire life. Is it good poetry? I think not. Is anybody reading it? I hope not - because it doesn't need to be good. Practice makes perfect, and what better than 5 minutes a day, with easy prompts to get the creative juices flowing? Take, for example, today's prompt, the hardest one of the week -
"*Exclaimb*Prompt #8 Feb 8 2026"   - surely you could do that, if you suppress your inner perfectionist, easily within 10 minutes - and that's the hardest prompt of the week!
But you say, "This man rambles too much!" Well, you'd be right. Perhaps that's why I try to write novels usually. But regardless (or irregardless, if you're feeling grumpy today), you should still check it out! Late work receives full credit anyway. Just click the massive link above.
For any questions, ask
Jayne Author IconMail Icon. For an example, if you really want to see it, here's what I wrote for today - "February 8th - surfer. For today's prompt, see "*Exclaimb*Prompt #8 Feb 8 2026"  . For help writing poetry, weep and mourn. (seriously, doesn't emotion help poetry? I've never tried it, so I wouldn't know).
Thank you for reading this rambling (assuming you did. if not, just click the big link above.)
(Pro rambling: ran into the character limit. Oops.)
What, is Jayne rewarding people to advertise or something? Beholden just did one yesterday. I wish I could join, but I have a full plate as it is... *Pthb*
Amethyst Angel ♡ Author Icon - It's a cult. Right, Jayne Author IconMail Icon?
And that's fair, but it is probably the shortest contest around. Just saying.
Amethyst Angel ♡ Author Icon - Of course not. People shared it voluntarily. I'm grateful to those who did.
Today is the one year anniversary of my big writing project, "The Rubbish Realm! It's not even halfway done yet, but a year is a year, no? (for reference, I've only been writing for 21 months now *Smile*) It's been quite a ride.
Finally - was writing some more of my novel on here ("The Rubbish Realm) and I realized - I'd made it to the second page of entries! 26 chapters, finally, after almost a year of pretty much only working on it. (I write slow...) Little pleasures you don't get on Google Docs *Smile*
Good grief, that's one heckuva story you've got going on there *Shock2* I look forward to the day it's finished. Press onward, young man!
I'm a big fan of the sky falling.

I also have one of those stories.
Fresh inch of snow outside from last night, untouched and pristine - nothing quite like looking back from your way to the bus stop to see you ruined the whole effect *mwahahahaha* horror story starter, perhaps?
Looking back on fresh fallen snow, seeing two sets of tracks, but not seeing anything following you *Bigsmile*
Especially if you look back and the snow is still pristine—even where your own footprints should be.
Jeremy Author Icon - yes, exactly what I was thinking! (You got something up your sleeves? 🇫🇷 [What, no Eiffel Tower emoji?])
Eek! My first time posting on here...
Well, I'm sure you've all heard the rumors going around of
"26 Paychecks , how it's going to change your life, get you to do things you'd never have done before, get you something to do in this bleak winter and year-round - and here I am as proof of it. I don't have enough to do and have never done this before, not in all my almost-year membership on here. Posting on my own notebook? Wow!
But that's not what I'm really here for. I have a question, a question worthy of
Annette Author IconMail Icon herself - so, a task every 2 weeks, 52 weeks in a year, 26 tasks... but what about day 365, outside of the 52 weeks? Will there be a special task for that? How will we know whether there will be 26... or 7 tasks? *ducks*
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
