In happier news, today is the wonderful: Joy Please join me in celebrating her special day by showering her with as many goodies as you possibly can; even if it's simply leaving a note in her newsfeed. She's been my WDC Momma from the day I signed up - back in the Jurassic era - and to this day, she never fails to make her presence known around Writing.com. Happy Birthday, dear Joy! Thanks so very much for all you've done and continue to do for this site. We're so lucky and blessed to know you. |
| Happy Saturday, folks. I am fortunate that I can look out my window to see a beautiful blue sky and the first buds of Spring. ....and then a wave of somber horror chills me as I realize that - under this same blue sky - there are others who have to listen to the whizzing sounds of bombs and bullets, simply because those in power act like children in their big shiny playpens. I am truly fortunate. |

What a fine day to wander through the aisles of ancient Egypt to bow before the remains of a towering Ramesses or marvel at the wonder of The Rosetta Stone or observe in reverence at the mummies that lie in state; wrapped in secrets never more to be revealed to cruise through the willowing streets of ancient Greece where gods and goddesses compete in translucent statutes while meticulous pottery showcase tales in detailed images or traipse through the Roman landscape and into homes were something as simple as a 'frying pan!' leaves you in awe and oh! the marvelous jewelry each culture wields but I get too ahead of myself because the masterful Assyrians beckon with towering statues of winged beasts who judge in silence while intricate murals weave legends of great kings and hunts that blow the mind did I mention the my trips through ancient Asia and the Americas? Time does not permit me to wax any more poetic For the infamous British Museum is all it's claimed to be and so much more: (It's just a big pity the Africa Exhibit/Gallery was closed - it really was the main reason I went there today. Either way! Time to update my wee travel log below. Huzzah!

| ...*takes off glasses and rubs eyes* I swear, I must be experiencing hallucinations of some sort. Everytime I log into this site, something changes - yesterday, my inbox headers were all blazing red, so I figured 'meh, maybe it's just because they've been read or something.' I come in this morning - it's all grey now...and in a different looking font. I skip out and assume I haven't had my coffee that's all. Now, I log back in at the end of the day and voila! THE WHOLE SITE font is now changed to a weird ...odd...font...waaaaaait...is the SM just messing around and testing new layouts or something?? I know about the skin change thing, but that's about it. Anyway, I'm off to bed. When I wake up...eeek! Who knows??? |
| No fonts have changed... we've just UNBOLDED everything that has literally been SCREAMING AT YOU FROM the side navigation for 20+ years. |

Saw this interesting lil' blurb on Instagram that said: If you can read this nurses note, you are bilingual: Pt. is 67 y/o M, DNR, PMHX HTN, COPD, GERD, DM2, A&Ox3 presenting w/ 7/10 LLQ abd pain & 3 days N/V. SP02 99% on RA pt. is currently NPO. Patient is a 67 year old male. He has a Do Not Resuscitate order. Past Medical History includes: Hypertension, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, and Type 2 Diabetes. He is Alert and Oriented x3 (name, time, and place) He is presenting with a 7/10 on the pain scale to his left lower quadrant abdomen. He's been having nausea and vomiting for 3 days. His oxygen saturation is 99% on Room Air. Patient is currently Nil by Mouth (not taking anything orally) So! I'm feeling mighty generous today, and if you're able to decode this puppy - without cheating! - you're going to get the shiny MB below: (still looking for that one specifically for 'Nurses' *cough*) Send your response to me via email! Do not post directly in the comments, if you don't want someone else 'borrowing' your answers. Once I've awarded 3 winners, I'll share with the rest of the class. Congratulations to: Jayne Jeremy Tiggy for earning your WDC 'pins'! And thanks to all those who tried and participated in the activity. Some of you were pretty close! |
| So, I had a very 'fun' night at work. Feels strange to find yourself being strapped on a stretcher and taken via ambulance to A & E. Where I had to spend the next ten hours waiting to be properly seen by a doctor - (yay NHS!) - before being discharged. Bottom line, I've been told to stay home for at least a month to fully recover, and I will try my best to do so. |
| Dear Concerned Citizen, If you are doubtful of my writing skills, and believe I will rely on AI to produce my stories, please have the cahones to send me an email on the topic. I have been a member of this site since 2005 - way before AI came into play - prior to that, I relied on PEN and PAPER to write my stories in my quiet moments. I do use Chat GPT today, but in what way? AFTER the original story has been constructed, and I simply want the AI system to condense the story or make it 'neater' - otherwise every darn thing you see posted here are MY WORDS 90% of the time if that program is used. So, please do not insult my intelligence by running around assuming I simply toss in prompts, sit back and wait for AI to give me the results. I'd like to think I still have the imagination to come up with original ideas once in a while. Kind regards, Kiya |

Jayne But I was thinking the submissions would be AI-generated as well, hence the breaking the Internet comment. Could AI pick the better of two selections it had written itself? It feels like an infinite loop in a spreadsheet - and a bit Asimovian, too, because I think a human author could do this easily, whereas, I think AI might wander out into the Venusian sunshine to clear its head. |
| Brandiwyn🎶 Like when I was in college in the mid-2000's (oh so long ago) we had to do an image using the computer programming to combine an older painting/image with modern day items. I have mine posted on one of my portfolio pages. We just called them 2d designs, not new paintings. However, with mass printing and such, paintings can be reproduced on flat canvas or canvas-like material. I have a small printed version of The Reader by Monet, for example. And some I see at stores like TJ Maxx have a little bit of 3d with the ability to touch some of the "strokes". If someone puts up a copy like that, people will tend to call it a painting due to the appearance and initial source even if it wasn't painted in the traditional sense. That is just the fine arts side. When you get into thing like book covers, since we know self-published work often uses computer created ones, that is a different ball game. And ooo, I just thought of a fun little challenge that requires rewriting. Have AI do the first terrible draft but have the writer do a complete rewrite and edit of said story. Post all versions to show the transition over time. |
I've just edited an item in my portfolio:

Ah, the immigrant struggle. It's as if you're being punished for wanting to find a better life for yourself in a new country. It's also ironic how these countries that scream so loudly about getting rid of immigrants, also demand so much money/fees from them! This year, I am due for the application of my 'Indefinite Leave to Remain' visa in the U.K. (which by the way the powers that be want to remove and extend to 10 years from the original 5 years eligibility because...reasons Guess how much that's going to cost me? £3,029 per individual I am 'lucky' that I am only applying for myself. Imagine if you were a family of five, already struggling to make ends meet. So, the next time you see someone going about villainizing (legal) immigrants, please remember the cost and price they have to pay every darn day just for their right to enjoy the freedoms most take for granted. |
