I have added a poem titled “The Lizard”. I watch him every day, sitting on my chair, in the balcony where I spend most of my time reading and writing. He is a regular visitor and I am always fascinated by his activities. His antics provide me a diversion from the seriousness of the daily activities. Raghav R |
I have added a poem titled “Cassandra’s Prophecy”. The poem is a result of my imagination of what, according to me, Cassandra would have told her father when she felt about the imminent fall of Troy. Raghav R |
I have added a poem titled "The Struggles of a Washing Machine" A disgruntled washing machine, fed up of its life struggles, narrates its agonising tale of woe. Raghav R |
I have added an Essay titled "Avian Predictions" I have added an essay on the topic “Avian Predictions”. The scenes depicted in the essay are those witnessed by me in my childhood. I have been witness to such activities on numerous occasions during my walk to school. People using parrots, sparrows and sometimes mynahs to predict the future of gullible persons were all too common those days. Most often, rural people flocked to such men to have their future read by these birds. It still exists in rural hamlets and patronized by illiterate village folk. |
I have added a poem titled "My Memories of Rickshaw Pullers" The poem is a recollection of what I had seen of the life of rickshaw pullers during my stay in Kolkata and Lucknow spanning a period of more than 25 years. I often think of them even after 24 years of leaving Kolkata and Lucknow. Raghav R |
I have added a poem titled “A City under Curfew”. I have attempted to write this poem, unlike my earlier poems, with internal rhyming. This is my full-fledged attempt and I hope it is received well by the readers of WDC. Raghav R |
I have just added a poem titled “Infant Son Versus Adult Son”. This poem talks about a mother harassed and tormented by her adult son. She recounts and laments how her son whom she brought up with loving care ill-treats her at her advanced age, incarcerating her and denying her the basic needs. She compares her son in his childhood and the adult now he is, and laments at the change the passage of time has made to her life. Raghav R |
It is a poem about the fictional experiences of one who had taken a road on impulse. This poem was posted more than a year ago and was considered worthy enough for nomination of Quill Awards under the category "Best Short Poem, Free Verse". Although it could not make it in the final round, I considered it high praise for this poem from WDC. I want to know the views of the newcomers who have joined WDC after the poem was uploaded on this site more than a year go. Hence this repost. Raghav R |
I have added a poem titled “The Unseen Divine Singer”. The listener is captivated by the mellifluous song coming from a bird hidden somewhere, far and unseen. The poem deals with the effect the song creates in the mind of the writer. Raghav R |
I have added a new poem titled "The Road of Life" Life is a long road. Our journey starts from birth and ends when we breathe our last. Once born, we have to walk along the path we are destined to take. Some may be fortunate to have smooth sailing while others may have a rough passage. Likewise for some the journey may be short, but considerably long for others. None can however escape the journey. I have tried to convey what one experiences during such a journey. Raghav R |
I have added a new poem titled "Rape of the Lock" The poem is written in a lighter vein drawing inspiration from the great poet, Alexander Pope, for the title. I hope it will find favour with the esteemed readers of WDC. Raghav R |
I have added a new poem titled "A Beast's Wit and Wisdom" This is a story poem where a cornered tiger uses her brain to outwit a human being with very clever language and escapes to freedom without being harmed. Raghav R |
I have added a poem titled “The Story of a Hapless Woman”. It is written to show how some classes of people and society treat women under the guise of high caste and low caste system and feigned insult heaped on them by the lower caste members. Invariably women suffer at the hands of such bigots. It is truly agonizing that such incidents take place even in this supposedly enlightened saga. Raghav R |
I have added a new poem titled "Unwanted" It talks about girl childlren being unwanted and considered a burden by the family members in certain sections of society and community. People's mindset should change if the situation is to improve and girl children get their rightful place in the society. Raghav R |
I have added a new poem titled "Size Matters Not" Smallness of size does not necessarily mean lack of power or strength. Likewise hugeness is no guarantee of immense power or strength. Just a single, tiny spark is enough to cause a wild, uncontrollable forest fire or cause a huge skyscraper to go up in flames and crumble to earth. This is the incontrovertible truth and one ignores it to ultimately find that he has done so at his own peril. Raghav R |
