| Wow I was able to add enough Gift Points to add 6 months to my membership. Entering all the contests and doing reviews paid off. Hope everyone else is having a good time. Take care everyone. |
| That's awesome! I've also found reviewing well can really pay off! |
| Thanks for sharing this great news. |
| Just received this news. I wish to thank everyone who voted for me. It is an honor to think other authors are enjoying my writing. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Congratulations on being named a FINALIST in the 2022 edition of "The Quills" .
Genres: LGBTQ+ and Fantasy |
| I am hoping anyone who is having trouble with their memberships has kept a copy of ALL their writing on their own hard drive. I have copies of everything I have written, including reviews and all contest entries. Times are hard. Back up your writing everyone. |
| I've been told that USB sticks are the least stable way to store things. I don't use them often, but when I do, they tend to work fine. Maybe they mean that out of all the options, you're most likely to have corrupted files from them, but it's still unlikely. Regarding your membership, when you lose your current membership, your items become hidden for a bit. I don't know how long, but I would say probably at least a few weeks is safe (though I can't promise that) and a couple of months might be. Once you get your membership level back, if it hasn't been "too long" (however long that is), you're stuff will reappear. |
Just entered my entry for the day in:
There is still time for others to join us. The idea is to do 15 entries before the end of the month. It's not hard. Come join the fun. |
Hello Everyone, I get the after-the-holiday downs every year. This year seems to be a bit harder though, which is probably because of my age. I want to to join in some of the fantastic new contest for the month, but my brain is not functioning. I hope everyone else is doing good though. Jane |
| I loved doing the 14 day/7 Prompt Contest. Every two days we were given a prompt and had to add to the story we started on the first day. Here is mine:
Congratulations to everyone who finished. |
| I really enjoyed doing this once I stopped screaming I had done something similar once at a workshop in town. Having a "guide" to upend one's plotted (potted?) plans really forces a writer to be creative. I had to make one character a tad robotic. I was really grounded in the setting and characters. That made my task easier. Ah... but the details of what the characters would go through... What part of the task did you like the most? Do you have a favorite chapter? Would you do this again? |
| Hello everyone. First Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. I'm doing some writing in a contest where your Chapters can only be a maximum of 300 words. If you want to try and refine your writing try something like this. It will help you to understand in your writing what is important and where you are just writing words. I've had several Chapters I have had to cut 100 - 200 words out of the chapter. Jane |
| My problem can be too few words! I seldom have to cut (my voice prefers short poetic images/phrases) as I think of each chapter as a scene or short video clip. I'm averaging 250 words. When I do go over... I start with cutting a/the, extraneous adjectives, adverbs, complete sentences if they don't add to the narrative. A story can be split into two; although, the next prompt may lead to major editing! I know the basic theme; but, the next prompt (tonight) could derail the story as-told-so-far. I've done something similar more-than-once in the past. I'm aiming towards 1,700 words total. I'm using skills I learned from the contest "Chapter One" (ongoing, December visual prompt is footprints in the snow). |
| Question: I have difficulty telling the difference between Sci-fi and Fantasy. If I have a story taking place on Earth, in an alternate universe, with people from other planets there interacting with the people on Earth, in a good way, is it Sci-fi or Fantasy? |
| I could also note that almost every fiction story, regardless of genre or the pains the author takes to make it realistic, takes place in an alternate universe; at the very least, one in which the story was never written. |
Congratulations! You've received a First Place awardicon! Ultimate Adventure Short Story
Thank you so much. |
