So we're a bit sad here on Monkey Island. Very few trick-or-treaters showed up to get stuff on Halloween.

So now we're stuck with almost full boxes of Fudge Stripe Cookies, Pretzels, and assorted chips.

WAIT!?! Is that really a bad thing?

Okay, we're happy again!!

I hear ya, Monkeyshines 🍌 🙈🙉🙊 Author Icon! I myself "only" bought 4 bags of candy. As it turns out, I could have bought just the smallest one - and still had plenty of snacks left over. Sigh...
Living in a rural setting, we don't get many trick-or-treaters, just a few locals. This year, however, not a single person showed up.
Enjoy the sampling.

So, yesterday we asked about Flying Monkeys, and we got a few varied answers from the WdC brain trust.

We decided to test the theory by launching patas monkeys, which can reach speeds over 30 mph, off the Bluffs here on Monkey Island. We found out they glided, much like the Wright Bro's Flyer, pretty far. They were pretty annoyed by having to swim back to the Island.

Speaking of swimming, what is the largest land mammal that swims?

Points only if you make us snort our Root Beer through our noses!!

Post here on the Newsfeed!!

If we count mammals descended from things that used to live on land, blue whale. Extinct critters? Ambulocetus was pretty good at swimming, a mammal and very large.
The immense Sumo wrestler Yuto          Not quite the size of Pluto          created a wake, a tsunami, a current shift          while swimming the North Pacific Drift.
Well, it's the blue whale.

But my sister is a damn close second...

*Lemur* Here's what we're wondering?

Based on the air across the wings speed of the Wright Brothers Flyer, if we could attach aerodynamic wings to the fastest monkey, would we create flying monkeys?

This is, of course, theoretical, because Ninja Monkeys are too slow and lazy to catch the fastest of our species. But we'll pay you 200 GPs for a correct answer in our EMAIL.

WebWiԎch is Thankful Author Icon - The only day I will do it. Thr other days if it deserves care I use cry on your posts. I think either Charles or Elycia I need to do the same too.
As always, Robert Waltz inspired us to go off on a tangent, do some research,
pest Richard until he looked stuff up for us.

We discovered that many different animals were part of the space race.

So many that we decided to make a Word Search to keep WebWiԎch is Thankful busy,
BTW, we didn't get any turkey!!

Unfortunately, it appears that the word search won't handle the accented "e" in Félicette. I'd suggest redoing it without the accent, but shh... don't tell the French.

Here Is The Answer To Yesterday's Ninja Monkey Quiz!

Who Were The First Animals Into Space?

Fruit flies (1947): These were the first living organisms intentionally put into space on a V2 rocket from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.

Albert II (1949): The American rhesus monkey Albert II became the first mammal and primate in space on a suborbital flight.

Laika (1957): A stray dog from Moscow, Laika was the first animal to orbit the Earth aboard the Soviet Sputnik 2.

Sadly, none of these early space travelers survived their journey.

Thank you Robert Waltz for edumacating us with a new fact!

A small black-and-white Parisian stray, Félicette, flew on a French rocket on a sub-orbital mission in October 1963 that reached an altitude of 154km, taking her to a place where no feline had gone before – or since.

Happily, Félicette survived her trip into space, preceding Data's Spot by several centuries!

I would like to propose an Honorable Mention for Félicette, the first and (so far) only cat in space, who was launched as part of the French (yes, French) space program. In contrast to these other early pioneers, she survived a return to Earth.

She's honored with a suitable memorial  Open in new Window. in her home country.

Thank you, also, for the Trinket. Banana Cream Cake sounds tasty. I wonder how it would fare with ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry.
