| Working on a "What A Character" entry. I don't want to do what I usually do and just quickly throw together a story and stick it on the contest. Usually when I do that, I might make an interesting story, but it most likely won't be a well written story. And, in those cases, my story receives a less than ideal rating, and fails to make the top three. So, I'm going to give it a little while. Try to write quality sentences, then edit after I'm done. Hoping it will be enjoyed. |

| Hmm. I might need to use my paper bag idea generator to come up with a truly unique story. I found out today that a film producer is the co-landlord of the building I am staying in. He recommended a book for me to read, and told me when everything is ready, to write a short film screenplay for him to read. I mentioned an idea to him, and he said that nearly all beginner screenwriters use similar ideas during film school; he wrote similar screenplays. So, now for something original. |

| Are you having a tough time thinking of ideas? Well, take three paper bags. In the first one, take several small pieces of paper and write one single genre on each of them.. ball them up and throw them in the bags. In the second, similarly write on the paper, but this time think of a random word like kitten or fork. In the third, think of a random name like Shaun or Theresa, ball them up and throw them in the bag... |
These are just off the top of my head sentences, but I've been doing some studying about "showing" and "telling". I wanted to make two different lines and see which reads the best.
*1* Shaun's body trembled and he screamed.
*2* Shaun's body trembled, "Ahhhh!"
The reason I am asking this is because, according the to book I'm reading, "he screamed" is telling. But then again, they say some telling is okay. Which do you think is better? |
| Thanks for the birthday wishes. I still don't have my own internet connection, but I remember seeing some Star Trek fanfic writing contests on here back a few months ago... Within the past few weeks I've been watching each star trek episode that comes on. I think my favorite would have to be voyager, and for some reason I find that Vulcans are hilarious (so serious). So anyways.. I will try to write something and put it on my flash drive.. Don't think I'm neglecting you all.... |

| Hey everyone. I just wanted to stop by and greet all the mother's on here a happy Mother's Day! I haven't been around in a while. I still haven't turned my internet back on; I'm at my uncle's right now. I have been practicing my writing with poems, screenplays, and stories. I may not be working as diligently as I was when I was an active member of this site, but I am still trying to refine my skills into the most emotion catching skills that I can possibly develop. I shall post something soon. |
| Hello. I just wanted to stop in and say that the reason I haven't been around is my internet has been shut off. I've been going fishing quite often lately also. It's actually quite different, describing the ocean, while actually working on it. |
| So a few days ago, I went lobster fishing, brought a few home to eat. My brother went shrimp fishing today and brought me home around 30 pounds of shrimp! |
Roaches everywhere! Amazing! Not bad roaches, that tear people's houses down, but happy roaches. Well, Review Raid tomorrow. I'm going to have to giver in order to catch up on my GP's  How nice it would be, if I placed in the Journey Through Genres. Then my problems would be solved. |
| Somebody read my poem, An Atlantic Blizzard, and was nice enough to give it a 2.5 rating. Is it really that bad? Should I just forfeit the contest I entered it in, because it is that bad? |
