I cannot seem to get anyone to review my port items
|
| I am not much of a poetry reader, but I do try to read some of the entries. I do not write poetry as I do not know-how and am not really into writing poetry. I see so many contests etc for poetry but none for novels, or short stories. Can someone point me in the direction of some contest for these? |
| Hi Laura. I'm the one who puts "Invalid Item" together, and I have to agree that there are a TON of poetry contests running this month. That's not to say that there are no non-poetry contests, because there definitely are! Some contests are always open, some are not but open on a fairly regular basis, some open now and again. There are a few contests that sometimes accept short stories and sometimes accept poetry. There are some contests that have a short story version and a poetry version, and the owner alternates which they run. Anyway, the point is that things change every month. That is why I started "Invalid Item" , so if you wanted to browse through the available contests at any particular time, there is one central place to do that. My suggestion is to put Contest Clues in your favorites so you can reference it any time you are looking for a contest to enter. |
| I run "The Whatever Contest -- Closed for Now" . It's a contest run whenever I feel like it. As you can see, I have a variety of contest prompts--basically, whatever seems good at the moment. I also run a challenge where, except in April, I always have non-poetry options. You can enter the challenge to earn MBs or you can just browse the current and previously highlighted contests lists for things to join. Good luck! |
One thing that may help is having more fans. You only have 7. I realize you've been here a while, so please excuse me if you already know everything I'm about to say, but I've found quite a lot of folks don't know the importance of having fans.
As you may know, when you post on the Newsfeed, no one will see it unless 1. They've clicked your Plus button at least once (to set you as a Favorite--twice sets you as a fan when they see the megaphone) 2. They get on the Community Newsfeed. Most folks don't get on the Community Newsfeed, no matter how much I harp on them to.
The Community Newsfeed shows what everyone is posting. Your Personal Newsfeed filters out everyone whose Plus you haven't clicked. Thus, if someone hasn't clicked your Plus and they don't get on the Community Newsfeed, they'll never see your Newsfeed notes.
You only have 7 fans, but the good news is that your fans are all still around and active--that's definitely good. To grow your fan base through the Community Newsfeed, go to your Personal Newsfeed (the default when you click Newsfeed), then along the top you will see "View the Community Newsfeed." Click that and you will see tons more notes. Scroll, Like, comment, and start making friends. It's not a fast process, but it's fun.
You can also get on the list of the most active reviewers and ask them if they would review your items, but they may expect GPs...which I would understand, given the length of your items.
You can also find something on the Please Review page that is about as long as yours and offer to trade reviews. Though, I'm glad to see you have started reviewing, your reviews are pretty brief, especially considering the length of some items. You don't want to disappoint someone with a 100 character review when they gave you a 20k one.
One thing I might suggest is fanning some of the top 100 reviewers on the site, a lot of them will fan you in turn which will mean more people seeing requests like this. Especially people who like to review.
