Got toothpaste in my eye this morning. IT WAS SO WEIRD. It felt...minty.
My attempt at using it as a simile: "Invalid Entry
Anyone else done this? Any thoughts on how else it might be used poetically?
Loved it! Not sure it met the format for haiku but loved it anyway!!!

Wagner or Vagner?

I want a sinister character, and you can't say 'Vagner' and not sound sinister. BUT whenever I see 'Wagner' I pronounce it phonetically, with the wa, which doesn't sound sinister at all. Do most people pronounce it the german way when they see it as a name? I can't decide which spelling to use!
It's a tough call. I'm aware that some early settlers in America anglicised the name to Waggoner, pronounced as if they were a wagon driver, so I'd be tempted to use V. Not everybody is aware of sound conventions from other languages.

The pot is rising steadily, and the winner gets 50% -- just 200gp could win you the big bucks *Laugh*

What's more, if you buy just one ticket each for 10 different people, you'll get a chance at a merit badge! And if you get them 7 tickets each, your chance of winning it is nearly 50-50!
For the last couple days, I've been timing my writing to try and keep myself focused. It's working quite well--it's much harder to start wondering off around the house/internet when I have to declare it to myself!

More importantly through, as I've been recording my writing sessions, I've noticed something beautiful:
1. my optimal session length seems to be just on 30 minutes
2. in those 30 minutes, I tend to write about 300 words

That means I write 10 words per minute, which is a round number and SUPER easy to do all sorts of mental calculations with! "I'll be there in 100 words" "Spend at least 20 words brushing your teeth" "Back in half a word." An easy and convenient new unit of time!
Feeling tense? Irked? Agitated? Maybe it's time for another round of...

This is a topic that gets me pretty mad, and I think everyone has experienced prejudice in one form or another. (For me, AGE is a big one. I could rant all day about the way some people treat you when you're young and therefor unintelligent... but this isn't the place). Come along and work out your frustrations!

Also, "Invalid Item is still going strong. I'd like to give out a few more merit badges before it ends, so come along and join. Just 2000gp for a 1 in 15 chance!

Has everyone seen this?

TarynSloane ~ Writing Author Icon has created a twist on the usual raffle style, which allows for much more strategy than simply buying a ticket!

I did some quick calculations, out of curiosity, and even attempted to write those calculations down (which took much longer). You can check out my ponderings here:

When someone says something that offends you -- something that is bigoted, unfair, or just plain mean -- should you tell them so?

If someone posts in a public forum something that could upset people, should you stand up to them? If the people being targeted haven't done anything wrong, and are already focus of too much abuse and misplaced hatred, should you let people know that not every one agrees?

Or should you ignore them, let bigots be bigots, and spend time doing more productive things?

I think it depends on the exact situation since no incident is the same. Generally speaking, I think most issues like the one you're referring to can be handled with tact and diplomacy, in order to keep it from escalating. A few carefully chosen words and perhaps even a few other commenters repeating the same sentiment should take care of the problem. However, if it doesn't, then a few words to the administrators might be necessary. No one deserves to be harassed or treated badly. I'd rather spend my limited time more productively, but there are times when being productive requires being a part of the community and doing "the right thing."
You speak the truth, Dee Author Icon. I do wonder if diplomacy is possible over the internet--it's hard enough being tactful in person, let alone through text! I've seen some people manage it though. I guess I just have to trust that there are some people level-headed enough to handle the situation responsibly, and that even if I can't manage to speak up calmly, there are others that might.
Dee  Author Icon
RainbowFish Author Icon, that is true about it being difficult to remain tactful online, especially since sentiment is so easy to misunderstand in an email or on a website. Since it cannot always be accomplished, that is why it is sometimes necessary to confront the person or the issue in a more direct way. Although some friends of mine feel ignoring a situation like this is the best way to make it go away. I find that it doesn't always go away so easily. But since I'm trying to remain as positive as I can this year, I would opt for the tactful approach.
I’ve seen some raffles around the place and thought I might join in the fun. I’ve added a few groups and contests as a beneficiaries, and put some MBs on offer, too. So if anyone’s interested, come take a look *Smile*

Epiphany/question:

From my exposure to American media, I have gradually come to understand that "Hershey's" is a brand of chocolate, and that when Americans say "Hershey's bar" they mean something like a snickers or mars bar, but I think maybe plainer, like a regular block of chocolate.

Anyway, it just now occurred to me that Hershey's seems to be the dominant brand over there. So does that mean Cadbury ISN'T dominant? Do you even have Cadbury in America?
We have Cadbury ... but it's considered a higher level of sweets, not Godiva but not the run of the mill Mars/Hershey confections. You mostly hear about it as Easter approaches with their Bunny pushing the brand *Laugh*. Hershey's used to be the dominant brand back in the 40's and 50's and the name became synonymous with chocolate like Kleenex became any tissue or Coke became any cola.
It exists, but definitely not dominant!
Woah. Thank you both for the insider info. I also had no idea that Coke meant any cola.

Hershey must not be great if it makes Cadbury look "higher level." Or maybe Cadbury's different over there, since it's going for a different market niche.
