| I've added a new entry to my book, "Invalid Item" : "Invalid Entry" Wondering what I've been doing for the past two years? Here's where you can find out! |
| Happy Mother's Day, everyone! This school year is winding down and by winding down I mean piling more and more work on me right before the end, but I thought I'd take a moment to let The StoryMaster I have become president of the local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English honors fraternity, and while going through all the stuff that I inherited with that, I discovered my chapter's Facebook page that hasn't been updated since February. There are only three photos on the organization's page, and guess what one of them is? The "I like cooking my family and my pets. Use commas, don't be a psycho!" promo image from WDC (with the WDC logo and everything). I thought that was kind of funny. Also if that's a copyright violation you should probably tell me so I can take it down when I get admin access to the page. |
| Hello everyone, I know I’ve been radio silent for a long time. So much happens between every time I post on here, I couldn’t hope to tell you all about it in even a blog post. Maybe one day I’ll write a college memoir for you all to read However, I will tell you that I have become involved in the English honors fraternity on campus, Sigma Tau Delta, and have made some wonderful friends. Two of them have even decided to join WDC. So, without further ado, I’d like to welcome Elizabeth Taylor Thank you all; I’ll update you more later. CJR |
Everyone should come participate! There's a whole bunch of prizes up for grabs, plus you get to act as your favorite character/person for a while. I'll be playing a suspect, and I might get murdered, or I could be the murderer myself. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
| Who knows about freelancing? I've been thinking about freelance writing on the side of my studies to get a jump start on paying off debt. The internet has an overwhelming amount of options, and I have no idea where to start. I read somewhere that the best way to start is to find someone else who has had success with freelancing and talk to them about it. Anyone know about this? Thanks! CJR |
| freelance *what,* though? you need a specific discipline or disciplines that you're looking to freelance in (for example, I'm a freelance artist and illustrator) for most advice to be useful. for the most absolute basics, though, I would recommend taking a look at https://www.freelancersunion.org/ which has many different resources for the average freelancer! |
NEWSFEED CHALLENGE Some of you may know that I am the owner of "Blogging Circle of Friends " . If not, I don't blame you as Witchy Yule Woman holds most of the items and is in charge of running the group on a day-to-day basis. If you are not familiar with BCOF, let me tell you that this group sends out a blogging prompt every day, and members will respond to the prompt and post in our forum, where leaders will comment on each entry. It's a great group of people, and I highly recommend joining. What you may not know is that BCOF also has its own, somewhat rare Merit Badge! So, today, I am creating a Newsfeed Challenge that allows all you merit badge seekers to get a chance to collect this one! Simply write a blog post (if you are a non-upgraded member, just post in the newsfeed) that follows today's daily prompt, and post your entry in the comments here. All qualifying entries will be put in a random drawing for one BCOF Merit Badge! This challenge is open to anyone, member or non-member. Be sure to tell your friends! Today's prompt is: You take a wrong turn when driving through a foreign country. What happens next? Good luck and happy blogging! |
| There were two qualifying entries, amy-Finally writing a novel. The Winner Is ▶︎ Congratulations! Your merit badge will be awarded shortly! |
| I have been challenged by the Gaby I got my start on WDC trying to get feedback on my since-deleted books (don't worry I still have them on Google Drive). However, I needed GPs to pay for people to review my stuff (newbie logic, right?), so I started entering "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" with a series of flash fiction that followed an escaped slave named Marcus on his way to Canada. Although I doubt the realism of it, it is a large part of what integrated me into WDC, and how I developed writing shorter fiction. Eventually, after I got Upgraded membership, I put them all in a book, and they hold a special place in my heart. "Invalid Item" Researching this story was what introduced me to Edgar Allan Poe, who is now one of my favorite authors, so of course I like it too. I even submitted it for something college-related, I don't remember what now, though. "An Element of Truth" This item was my first awardicon-ed item on WDC, and I felt so special getting it. As a result, it's also one of my favorites. "Great Act of Mercy + The Royal Treasures" As far as the rest of my favorites, they're largely tied to what I've won. "Invalid Item" is special because it was the first time I placed in an official WDC contest. "Invalid Item" also placed in an official WDC contest. "Invalid Item" was just nominated for a Quill Award, which is the first time I've been nominated by someone other than myself "Invalid Item" and "Invalid Item" are also important to me, because they were both written as a way of coping with a problem I was dealing with (rejection and the transition to high school, respectively). However, my all-time favorite has got to be "Invalid Item" . It won a Quill, and I consider it to be one of my best ideas ever. Although each story as a standalone is not super great, together I think they are very good. I started to turn it into a novel, and may resume that a some point, but ultimately, the Gopher Wood Series is my favorite. |
Feedback Request
Obviously, this is not going to happen any time soon, especially with GOT right around the corner, but I really like this idea, and I have about 200K GPS saved for it. If this were to take place in like March, would people be interested? I'm just looking for general feedback. |
| I'M ALIVE! The sad thing is no one knows the musical I'm referencing. But I am, indeed, alive. I have finals next week and a whole bunch of stuff to do, but one of the first things I'm going to do this summer is write down a summary of how my freshman year of college went. Everyone has permission to hound me if I don't get this done by like June 1 or something. I've been meaning to do this for... forever. But, college. I have a recital tomorrow for the music fraternity I joined, and I am very nervous. I will be playing a cover of "Under Pressure" I arranged for flute and alto sax, but the alto sax doesn't play it as well as I'd hoped. It's apparently not super noticeable, and only super noticeable to me because I know what it's supposed to sound like. I'm also going to be the Criminologist for "Time Warp" from Rocky Horror and Edna Turnblad from Hairspray (the guy who was gonna do that part couldn't and Hairspray is my favorite musical so I already had the words memorized... I'm going to have to wear a tutu and I'm keeping this information from my father So, just a slice of my life right now, but I'll tell more stuff later. |
If you want to talk about it, do let me know and we'll come to email and I'd love to help out and talk
