NaNo friends! How's it going?

What's the last paragraph you wrote?

Mine: She nodded. “That’s what I thought. Less pastry, more research. I’ll be downstairs on your parchment, waiting for students to show up.” With that she sashayed back out of the open door, her tail swishing behind her.
Mike threw Baxter to the ground. "It's kind of hard keeping your eye on someone if your face is in the dirt."
As usual, after the sisters unloaded their things, they gathered around Jo Jo in the kitchen for their morning brief.
A bit slow, really. But today, since I'm home all day, I'm gonna watch my drama and write all day. I have the liberty to stay in bed all day long.
I wanted to write a light fantasy ... now I'm worried I don't have enough substance to make the story 50,000 words. *Worry*
So maybe 4-5k this page?
Maybe it's just a short act1. Keep going. When you get into the meat of the story, I find troublesome things present themselves.
Life is a fantasy. Just look at us for confirmation. *Rolling*
Yeah . . . these first few chapters are setting up the story and the characters. I just need to make sure I add the depth I want to it.
Are you ready for NaNoWriMo?

And . . . what do YOU do to get ready for NaNoWriMo? Did you Prep? Are you pantsing? Do you have NaNo fuel snacks? What are they? Do you have a designated writing space?

And lastly . . . what do you do to keep from being distracted while writing during NaNoWriMo?

Answer any or all of the questions . . . there may be a surprise for one of you . . . *Wink*
💙 Carly: Happy New Year Author Icon Eek . . . well, when the story begs to be written you must heed the call! I would definitely say that qualifies you as a planser! *Laugh*
gingerlyme Fresh fruit! *Delight* Grapes are so easy to eat while writing. *Bigsmile*
I did prep. I also read the first novel over to refresh my memory and find a place to start book 2.

I have three designated writing spaces. One is on my bed where I can occaisonaly turn on the heat.

The 2nd spot is at the dining room table where I can see traffic go past. And make sure food doesn't burn when it's cooking.

The 3rd spot is Taco Bell. I was there tonight before the trick or treaters started, discussing who of them was doing what in the novel. Chano laughed at being pushed through the drive in window to get away from the feds.

I have a menu all made up. I have meats seasoned and in the freezer. The water is now being pumped out of the basement where the freezer is kept. lol

The table was loaded with flowers, wreaths, shells, paints and all sorts of stuff and it's now cleared away.

I have two boxes of caramel popcorn, a bag of dried mango, several fresh mangos, some Halloween size chocolate bars, popcorn to pop and cookie dough made up.

I don't do anything to keep from being distracted. Being type A I need other stuff going on so I can concentrate on my writing. I have Twilight to play repeatedly and Fantastic Beasts and where to find them to help. They are at the middle of my lap top, scroll is on the left and I write on the right. I am all set for 12:01

Split pea soup is on the stove for later tonight.

When you step away from the computer and your novel blossoms into a series. *FacePalm*
*Shock* *Rolling* SIS!!!! Shall I put a pansy in there and see what happens??
Hmmmmmmm..... how does a navel blossom? *thinks
It takes a lot of lint...
Is it a problem that none of my characters have last names? *Worry*
"Probably Pumpkin the cat doesn't need a last name."

Especially not "Spice."
DEFINITELY not "Spice" Robert Waltz Author Icon *Laugh*
Pumpkin Pie? Pumpkin Cookies? Pumpkin Burgers?!

I don't think your royal family needs last names, unless their last name is something like, "of Myfictionalrealm" or "of Myparentsname" or you could fabricate some version of that in your land that's similar to O'Myfictionalrealm or deMyfictionalrealm or "MacMyparentsName" / "McMyparentsname" (but you could make your own prefix?)

Or maybe they just don't have last names. *shrug*
Many many moons ago my oldest joined wdc. Some of you know Dr. Bunny (or Dr B for short)--aka Dhoc-li Llama Author Icon. They haven't been here in several years, but that doesn't mean they aren't still writing.

Wow, are they writing. This can be tough stuff to read, but if you're up for it, please check out Dr B's mental health blog.

*Delight* Remember yesterday when I said I check Writers Cramp once every few years? And yesterday's prompt was so perfect for my Prep that I wrote a story for it?

I WON!!! *Delight*

*Dragon* Fly Tobias, fly!
Woohoo!! Congratulations. *Bigsmile*
Once every couple of years it occurs to me to check out the Writers Cramp prompt. Today's prompt could not have been more perfect! It aligned so beautifully with my NaNo prep, giving me a chance to explore a bit of my character that won't necessarily appear on the page. *Delight*

So frustrated! I am a little fanatical about saving my work in multiple locations, so I don't lose anything. While I've been recuperating from my eye issue, I've been sporadic about my computer usage. I spent a significant amount of time last week working on a character profile, and then I apparently saved something else over it? I don't know . . . still getting used to the way Windows 10 does things when I save a document, but I went to open the profile and . . . it was a different document altogether. *Cry* All of that work is gone. I was waiting to save it in my Port until I'd had a chance to fill in some of the gaps (eye strain took me away from the computer before I could do that) so it's not there either.

Also I've gotten myself so disoriented by not working directly on the computer, and saving my Prep to my Port as soon as I've written it! I have one assignment that had the wrong date on it. I can't find another assignment altogether and now I can't remember whether I actually wrote it or not. It may be in my notebook somewhere but I didn't type it up. And the assignment with the wrong date has the date of the one I can't find. Gah! Working in a notebook is not for me.
Found the missing assignment (from 2nd paragraph) in my notebook! Woot! That character profile I had done on the computer though.
I am so sorry!!!!
Sorry for all the frustration! So glad you found the missing assignment.
It's Prep Time!

Five more days!!! Have you signed up yet?

It's gonna be fun.
Let me get through my work week first. Then we'll prep for prep.
I'm all signed up. Going to find out if the prep works as well for a play as it does for a novel since I'm finishing up Liar for actual NaNo but didn't want to skip prep...
I AM OVER THE MOON EXCITED RIGHT NOW!!!

Back in October of 2015, I started working on a writing project. I got about 2/3 of the way through the first draft during NaNoWriMo in November 2015, and stalled. I continued working on it for NaNoWriMo 2016, but again I stalled. I was determined to get the first draft finished before October, so I could begin Prepping for this year's project.

I did it! Today I finished the first draft of Like It or Not, my YA contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's As You Like It!

It needs a lot of tweaking, but it's FINISHED!

YAY, Mums! Super mega excited for you!
Of course it need a lot of tweaking; it was written for nanowrimo. We that do nano know how that goes. GOOD JOB
First draft word count 78,131! The longest piece I've written to date. *Smile*
12 days 'til

TWELVE DAYS! Have you signed up? Come sign up! *Delight*

**No novel idea required . . . Prep will help you get there!
I'm still hunting for a plot. Otherwise I have to go to a different series. I wanted this series done... just in case.
They live in Provo, Utah.
This was just recommended to me on amazon . . . the name alone makes me want to get it! *Laugh* And I don't write historical fiction. *Rolleyes*

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00958628C/ref=s9u__nn_ebooks_gw_i3?ie=UTF8&fp...
Neither did I til I decided my immortal bard was born an early mainland Celt. *Facepalm* My muse and I don't get along well. She makes me work.
I want that book!!
Just registered for an Adult Ed Creative Writing class given by our local Parks and Rec . . . it overlaps with NaNo. This should be interesting. *Shock*
Sure . . . but not toward my story. Hopefully I'll be able to incorporate some of the assignments into my NaNo project, but either way, Imma be a busy bee!

Aaaand just decided we're going to Philly for Thanksgiving, because we got an invite to a Bar Mitzvah that Saturday! So extra challenges . . . wheeee! *Laugh*
according to Chris Baty, anything you write counts toward nano. So any assignments given that you work on still count toward your word count on nano
I'm totes jealous!! *Smile*
