Words: 141 // Lines: 34 For: "PromptMaster !" ![]() They came, they saw ... they thought they'd conquered. Poor, deluded beings! They swam, they crawled, On two legs they lumbered Think themselves kings and queens! They gathered, they hunted They trapped, they tamed They destroyed so they could build. They mechanized, automated They fought and maimed They armed themselves, they killed. They bred, they multiplied They laughed while others cried They took more than a fair share Care? Do you think they care? They lost all their instincts What's left just stinks But it won't be long Humans will get too strong Then humankind Leaving no trace behind Will perish Is this nature's wish? No, nature is mother father, sister, brother Nature hopes mankind Will one day find A conscience, collective and learn to give. Nature wants harmony Humans want money As long as humans want more There's doom in store. |

Words: 300 // FOR "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" ![]() “Don’t say a word.” The club's motto was written up on a chalkboard at the door, and the members whispered it as they gave each other the special handshake. “Don’t say a word.” All fifteen members were present today, and every surface that could be sat on - chairs, the table, the rug, the floor ... were occupied. The chairperson rose and flourished her hands in the air. Everyone applauded. Someone raised a hand, and the chairperson pointed at her. The young lady rose, folded her hands and held them close to her forehead in the 'namaste' gesture, indicating thanks to the chairperson. Once more, there was applause. Then, the chairperson gestured to the window-ledge, on which were perched a jug, some paper cups and a few packets of cookies. There wee sighs of delight as members helped themselves to lemonade and cookies. The spies outside were baffled. "They haven't said anything," Sarah whispered. "Shh," Henry hissed back. "It's so quiet in there they'll hear us." "Yes, we did hear you," a voice spoke from above them. The children jumped, startled, and looked up at the face of their Principal. "We thought you'd be here," chairperson / Principal continued. "Want some lemonade and cookies?" The children were too scared to refuse. They tiptoed in, watched by the grim faces of their teachers. As they reached the front of the room, the laughter broke out. "We knew you'd spy," Henry's aunt Jane, who happened to be a teacher in his school, said. "We wanted to prove to you that we could do what we ask you to, and not say a word during lessons. Now, you two ringleaders, will you spread it around Third Grade that teachers can sit quietly themselves, and expect students to do so?" "Yes, teacher," mumbled Henry, nibbling his cookie. |
Words: 281 // FOR "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" ![]() It was the last day of the green drive. Principal Norhonha was on stage, holding the mic, urging students to 'keep it up'. "We had to announce prizes, so there had to be a last day," Principal Norhonha said. "But you must remember, dear children, that mother earth needs your care every day. Every day is earth day, and the green drive is forever." Dad whispered to Mom. "I know she's giving an important message, but I wish she'd hurry up and announce who won." "You are worse than the kids," Mom scolded as softly as she could."The green drive really has made the kids more environment conscious." "But I want to know if my kid won!" Mom gave him a friendly smack. "You big baby!" she admonished. "SHHHH," hissed a few voices around them. Mom and Dad subsided, each blushing. Principal Norhonha was at last talking about winners. "Now we have so many good entries that we've decided to break it up into sections and categories. So - the Primary Section prize for the Don't Litter category goes to Jeremy and Team!" "How many categories before we reach ..." Dad began, but Mom nudged him hard and he sank back into his seat and feebly applauded. " .... Middle School for Save Our Trees ..." Dad leaned back in his seat. He felt his eyes closing. He didn't see someone signaling from backstage. He didn't feel his wife standing up and creeping away. He awoke to a hard poke in the ribs. "Dad, Dad, were you asleep? Is that why you didn't come on stage when Mom did? I won the overall trophy, Dad, and parents had to be on stage. Here's my trophy, look!" |

"It's such a lovely surprise to meet you like this," Shaila gasped. "I owe you so much." They chose a table together and a waiter offered them canapes. "Ma'am is vegetarian," Shaila stated. "I remember that from my own school days, our class picnics!" The memories flowed. "i remember - I can never forget - you always -" came gushing out of Shaila in a glad torrent. Gita took a sip of her drink. She was looking thoughtful. " ... and it's standing me in good stead now, Ma'am," Shaila was saying. "You always called us Darling or Dear or My Girl - something to show us you loved us. I do that with my students now." Gita's eyes twinkled. "Sweetie," she piped up. "I had to say Dear or Darling or whatever. You see ... I forgot your name.” |

He's already got the marriage license and the preacher. I've called my big brother Tushar to give me away and he's been silly enough to say yes.
