Broken

A poem about betrayal by a friend in a time of need.

Why did you leave me?
I cried out for you in pain
You ran so you wouldn't have to see
You left me broken

Only pieces were left
I had to glue myself together
With hands not deft
Shaking from broken unity

You came back like a sheep
But I was scared to let you in
For fear of a wolf hidden deep
Ready to break me once more

Time goes on, and I fear you no longer
But I still bar my heart
For now I have grown stronger
I won't be broken anymore
